if it's "very unlikely" and you got "extremely lucky", then why do you bother???

i don't get it

Wow I feel left out! I'm a senior this year... and I still have yet to take the SATs for the first time. Granted, I'm from Canada, and would be perfectly happy going to school here, where SATs are unheard of. Also, I'm applying RD to a couple US schools mostly just to see if I can get in (ie. ivies). That leaves me to take the SAT 1 in October, the subject tests in november, and a retake in December if I do really terrible (which probably won't happen... because I'll be a good girl and study and also because I really don't care enough to do them again!).

I took it once. I was off about about 100 points from my goal :[ It sucks that missing 3 math questions (one omit!) brings you down 80 points, though.

panic, its not that i will lose anything right?

Taking it one more time for a total of two SAT sessions.

Going for a 2300+ only if verbal exceeds 700

any more out there?

i took the SAT I three times (twice on the old and one on the new) and am done with the SAT I.

i took the sat IIs in may 05 and am generally satisfied, but i think i might retake one of them in oct.

You are insane if you retake, Vehement. I thought I was bad for retaking a 2280 (1st attempt) in October...

I've taken them once and I'm fine with my score...I may retake in November or December, depending on if I have time to study.

i mean whats wrong? does it hurt me if i score lower? not really right?

Once - March, 2340. I feel my ACT score confirms that I am capable, so I am done.

took SAT I in March, taking them again in October..

Vehement... why would you willingly sit through a 3.5 hour test more times when your score is higher than almost 100% of people who take it? You are a crazy one indeed.

I took it once... 2220, triple 740. I'm done. Man, when I saw that I'd scored in the 98th and 99th percentiles for m, v, and w I wondered who the people were that scored higher than me.

Then, I came to CC and found out every single one of them was on this website.

looks like most, but not all, rising CC seniors have taken the SAT 1's twice by now, with many going for a third round soon.

Well gold, for one i have a 2.8-3.2 gpa so i really need to pull off a 2400 to even have a shot at any decent school. and secondly, while a 2340 is impressive, a 2400 would actually make it appear as if you have more to offer than what is there on the test....can you see where i am coming from?

Once. Done. Nevertheless, Vehement, I think I've heard that schools are moving away from placing such a high emphasis on SATs. The reason: probably because it doesn't really predict college success. So you see, trying to bump up your scores would actually seem to be a desperate attempt to make up for past years. I honestly can't see where you're coming from.

so tell me this please....whats better? a 2340 or a 2400?

the 2400 is obviously better, but not if you have to sit three times to get it, esp when you have a 2380 already. colleges will think of you as an obsessive test taker, and I'm sure they'd appreciate if you did something more productive with your saturday (or sunday) morning. colleges also realize that the difference between a 2340 and a 2400 is minimal, maybe only a few questions (3 or so). honestly, I think your SAT score is amazing, and you should focus on the rest of your app! then again, none of us are adcoms (in fact ,I'm another student like you!) either way, best of luck! :D

OK, since you're obviously very obstinate on this, I give up.
