Is anyone familiar with the "New Student Record" by Herff Jones. Got an email to have your student participate in this pictorial directory. Normally I would just think it was another opportunist trying to squeeze money out of you, but the email came from the Assistant Director for Student Activities & Orientation at Furman. I was just wondering how many students participate. If it is not a majority, then I would think it would not serve much of a purpose. Any thoughts as to whether this is worth it from those that are familiar with it and how many students actually participate?

I wondered the same thing last year when we got the letter and contacted Furman to make sure it was legitimate and they said it was. My D participated and sent in her photo and bio. (I think she did it on-line). It was well worth it. Usually 50-70% participate and was helpful to D to have the directory as a qyuick reference. We ordered an additional copy for us so we got our copy in advance of move in day so D had a chance to check out some of her fellow students, see which ones were from our state, their majors, etc. She still uses it as a reference. We thought it was well worth the investment.
