I am from the USA, but I took a class from a UK university. I am interested in attending a university in the USA and am wondering what to apply as. I’m not sure if I am a transfer, or if I’m international? I’m not hoping on getting any credit for the class. I want to apply as an incoming Freshman, but I don’t want to not tell them about the course.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks!
(I am planning on emailing the college in question, I just wanted some advice over the weekend)
You MUST indicate the UK course that you took. Colleges generally have a threshold for number of credits earned before you are considered a transfer student rather than a freshman. Check each college website.
As a US citizen you will be consider a domestic applicant. Is your secondary education in the UK?
Did you take the university class while a secondary student, or was it after you completed secondary studies? In either case, you need to disclose it, but if you took the class before completing your secondary education, you will likely be considered a new freshman.
Thank you both for responding.
I checked with their website and it gave me the credit information, but the credit system is different in the U.K., so I will still need to verify. My secondary education is from the United States. I’m hoping that it won’t make my chances worse because I have that credit?
If you took the class after you graduated from high school, some colleges will consider you a transfer student. Transfers don’t generally get much aid. Contact the school and ask how they handle courses from other colleges.
