Does anyone know if UCSD offer new students pick-up service at San Diego International Airport or any other location? If not, how do people get to UCSD from the airport? Taxi and what else?

Unfortunately, not for move-in or move-out. They do offer free shuttle pick-ups for the 3 breaks throughout the year though.

You can take the taxi, or you can reserve with Super Shuttle. They pick you up at SAN airport and drive you and your stuff to whatever point on campus you choose. It costs about $16-19 if you reserve online for a shared ride, which means they pick up other passengers in the same ride, which may delay you a bit but I think it’s worth the money you save.

The San Diego Airport is going through some major renovations. Ship your stuff ahead to your mailbox and use the supershuttle to get to UCSD. Make a reservation so that you can go directly to their stop. I would say plan on $20-30. You might be able to find a coupon online.

Thanks a lot!

Taxis are expensive. You can also take the bus if you don’t have too much stuff.

Re Supershuttle, you will have about a 25 minute ride from the airport, unless he makes several stops.

San Diego does not have great public transportation. UCSD is not pedestrian user-friendly. Your first shopping stop (with someone who drives) should be Walmart in the Clairemont area for a cheapie bike.

The bike can be loaded onto the bus if you need to go somewhere further, but be aware that you will be on the bus forever.
