I received this email today....

As members of the Maryland Parents Association, you are the first to receive this exciting news!

We are pleased to inform you that the university's 30th Annual Family Weekend will take place on Friday, October 15 - Sunday, October 17, 2010. Family Weekend is the largest university-sponsored program devoted entirely to the family experience, and we sincerely hope that many of you will make plans to return to campus (or join us for the very first time) for this exciting weekend of events. Additional information will be posted on the Family Weekend Web site at Family Weekend - University of Maryland when available.

Area hotels fill quickly, so we encourage you to make reservations as soon as possible. Contact information for hotels in and near College Park is available on the Family Weekend web site.

We look forward to seeing many of you at Family Weekend!

What kind of things do they do for this event? Is this something that siblings would enjoy?

I’d say it’s primarily parents of freshmen who attend, and yes, there are things that siblings would enjoy (including seeing their brother/sister as a real life college student!) There’s usually a cook-out type meal on McKeldin Mall, usually some entertainment planned in the Stamp or at the Clarice Smith(??) center, the Maryland Parents Association usually has a fun silent auction. One year they had a “treasure hunt” all over campus. It’s worth going (and you’ll be ready to see your freshman kid), if you can’t or don’t see them before. (And they are ready by then for you to take them to Target and/or the grocery store to restock their snack supplies!)
