New to the UCs

I've decided to add UCSD and UCB to my app list and I'm just wondering if someone could fill me in on some of the stuff. I know they have a separate app, which I've already started, but the whole thing for the UC's seems kind of weird.

Like what is this UC GPA? and is there some sort of point system that UCSD uses for their applicants?

Also, what are the chances of getting in OOS, is it much harder?

Lastly, do the UCs require letters of rec for undergrad admissions? I couldnt find an answer to that anywhere online.

thanks.

The UC GPA is a GPA with a maximum of 8 weighted semesters. OOS might be eaiser since they want your money. No letters of recommendation are required (or accepted).

[CaliforniaColleges.edu - Calculating Your GPA](http://www.californiacolleges.edu/admissions/california-state-university-csu/gpa_calculator.asp)

This is how you calculate your UC GPA.

UCSD does use a point system. If you look around CC, you’ll find the exact formula that they use. You get a certain number of points for ECs, grades, etc, and everyone who has a certain number of points get in.

It’s generally considered harder for non-residents to get into UCs, and the UCs require higher stats from out of state applicants. This is b/c the UCs are legally obligated to give priority to residents. While it will be easier to get in from OOS this year than in previous years, because of the budget cuts, it’s still harder to get in from OOS. That’s generally true for every state college, not just the UCs.

The UCs don’t require or accept a letter of rec for undergrad. If you send one, it will be shredded.
