Im a high school junior and i came to america this year. So i dont really know about many things. I want to try to get into colleges like stanford, UC, cali state university or san francisco state university (is SFSU good?)
I have taken Algebra 2 trignometry, English 1, world histroy, PE, chemistry and 2D animation
I know they arent good enough (or are they?)
I have asked my counsellor to change world history to AP US history cuz I have already completed it in India.
If I take the SAT exam this year, do i have to take ot again next year too? As a senior?
Im also thinking of going to summer school for pre calculus so that I can have Calculus for 12 grade.
please help me guys, what should I do? What classes shouldI take in 12 grade?
Well, if you can take honors versions of those classes and can handle the rigor, that would be optimal. Unfortunately, many schools do not allow transfer students to suddenly take a bunch of AP/Honors classes. Check with your counselor to see if you can.
Since you're a junior, you only have to take it once. Colleges will accept either the old SAT or the new SAT. If you do poorly on the first try, however, it is certainly recommended that you take it again.
12th grade: Take as many AP’s/Honors classes as you can. Optimally, they would be in subjects that you are interested in.
If you are interested in web development, taking AP Comp Sci, Computer Graphics or something like that can be something you may be interested in.
You should have a meeting with your counselor. Tell her/him your goals and see if she/he can help you.
Take the most difficult classes that you can do well in. If you do well enough on the SAT the first time you never have to take it again. You may want to talk to your guidance counselor about taking the SAT2s and also about college in general. Don’t be shy about asking for help. In large high schools in the US, those who ask for help end up doing better than those that don’t ask and don’t know much about the college system in the US.
Are you a US citizen that has been living abroad or are you International? What type of curriculum did you take in India? How much can you family afford for school?
For Stanford, you need to be the tippy top of your HS class to have any chance for an acceptance along with outstanding test scores, extra curricular activities and essays.
UC’s also very competitive, so you need to know how you compare to your fellow classmates to determine if any of these schools are viable options.
Meeting with your counselor is essential to understand what you need to do to succeed.
II don’t think I understand what you are saying…do you mean you think you are going to be a US citizen because you will live here all your life? Then you are wrong because that’s not how citizenship works.
There are many meticulous steps you have to go through just to stay legally in the US, and there are many applicants for Green card and/or citizenship every year.
First, ask your parents what your legal status is: citizen? permanent resident? Do you/they have a visa, and which one?
Second, see if for second semester (provided you get A’s), you can “move up” to Honors sections of each class. Depending on what you did in India, you should be able to take Honors Chemistry. For APUSH, it’ll be very difficult, why not save it for next year and take AP World instead? It’ll be closer aligned to what you studied in India, but will still be an AP.
Are you in the right math level? Because most Indian Juniors are already taking calculus.
SAT: it’s to your advantage to take it twice or three times. Essentially, unless you score de 2200 the first time around (if you’re aiming for top schools) or a 2100 (if you’re aiming for all other schools), you should retake. You’ll also need to take subject tests in May or June (pick among Math2, World History, and Chemistry - another reason why AP World would be useful).
You can take an AP classes (provided your school offers them and your counselors provide it), but to get the college credit, you have to take the AP test at the end of the course in May.
AP tests are never a requirement for college admission.
You may want to do a little research on these things (such as AP exams) - example sources: College Board website, Wikipedia, the websites of the schools you are interested in.
AP tests can be taken after you took an AP class, but they’re never required. Students take them in order to “get credit” in college.
AP classes are the most rigorous offered in high school.
Take Honors World History or AP World History, and plan to take APUSH next year.
Are you correctly placed in math or is math super easy?
No its not really easy for me, most of them are new for me. But Im planning to take Pre calculus in summer school, so that I can get calculus in 12th grade.
How many courses can you take in summer school? Is my decision good for beinga web developer?
