New Year, New Look for College Confidential!

Thanks for the continued feedback. The hometown is a feature I’d like to see return as well. Also, there were requests to make the username font larger to stand out more. The color contrast could also use a bit of work.

There is a growing request to make threads in which you have posted stand out more…kind of like in the old site. Makes navigation much easier for sure. Your continued input will help us make the necessary tweaks to ensure as few as possible jump ship, as you say. We realize most are resistant to change, especially at first. Please bear with us because I think in time you will grow to love it

We’ll probably tone down the emoticons, though >-) Not even sure what that one is

Please, please, please, PLEASE remove the “post to Facebook” feature. This whole freaking place is supposed to be “Confidential” and the last thing we need is the ability to rapidly share these posts. It’s one thing to be able to share your OWN posts but it crosses the line to allow OTHERS’ posts to be put on to Facebook with or without their permission.

And please, please…number the posts on each thread. Folks often refer to posts by number when responding.

We could always share a thread on FB, it’s just that there is now a button for it. Also, google indexes these threads SO quickly it’s scary. We mentioned a certain book in a class of … thread and the author came in and posted the next day - clearly she had a google alert set up for her name, or the title of her book.

Even sharing a thread is much different than individual posts.
Also, you’d be amazed at how often people google themselves and their works.

I haven’t had much time to explore, but it seems as though you can’t turn off the private message or the tagging function. I always kept the PM feature turned off in hopes that students would contact me through more direct methods (email, my blog, Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram).

Maybe I have missed the setting?

I always loved seeing locations listed under names. There are some current students and recent graduates from many colleges posting here and I think it helps to see something like “UVA 2013” right under their name.

I can get used to white background I guess, at least the font is black.

160x160 pixels is way too large for an avatar, it causes way too much white space when the reply is only a few lines.

Having the Flag/Like/Helpful/Facebook icons under every post wastes a lot of space vertically. Maybe move them somewhere else, like maybe in a column on the far right of a post?

We seem to have lost the ability to display more than 15 replies at a time. I had it set to 40 before, can we get that back?

Does the left column really need to be that wide? Huge waste of screen space.

Fixed-width layouts are annoying. This was a huge point of contention at the last refresh and led to an ability to use the old styles instead, which used the entire width of the browser (and had more pleasing colors).

what is the flame? the photos are way too big. I thought this was confidential (not facebook). I need the white toned down and the scrolling is too much. seriously the old one was so easy to read, this is was too white and print way too small. what is the flag? Can you at least have a FAQ to explain some of the features? Thanks

<li>Locations/bios would be nice.</li>
<li>I second that the Facebook login should be removed.
(It’s just kind of odd to broadcast your college confidential activity to your social network.)</li>
<li>I like the photo avatar option.</li>
<li>What does the “visits” on your profile page indicate? New feature or something?</li>
<li>Along with the new “likes” there should be “dislikes.” This is pretty typical of internet forums.
(The thought process is that when users post comments that people really dislike, there should be a way to show it…)</li>

Help me understand the facebook connection. Is everything I post here being posted on my facebook account?

On Firefox, I’ve always been able to change the size of the reply box.

I can still resize it, but then when I type a character it resizes to exactly the size of my post.

This is seriously annoying behavior. Never automatically resize the edit box smaller.

Please put the contents of a post back into the emails that are sent. Lots of times I just read what is in the email and don’t desire to go to the forum.

Everything hurts. Every time I come back, I get a headache.

I don’t have poor eyes. I’m young. I’m not playing with my computer settings for one page.

Maybe I’m missing something but I can no longer go directly to the last page of a thread. I have to scroll through each page!

@Overtheedge are you on the mobile app? Nothing wrong on the computer version.

Also the avi are fine imo. Reasonably sized.

On the Musical Theatre Schools subforum, there is no longer a way to see if there are new posts without opening each school’s section. Or am I missing something?

@notrichenough The input field should not be autosizing. We will look into the issue. Thank you for your feedback.

How do I find my threads and who responded to them? I click on “threads” and I get I have none.
How do you get to the latest post since I read the thread?
How do we know that there are new replies in a thread where we participated? When we didn’t participate but just read it?
Is there a page explaining how the changes work? I looked at the video but it’s like an advertisement for the new look, not a tutorial.
What does the little flame mean?
I found a thread where I’d responded and where there was a new reply but there was no indication similar to the yellow dot with a red staron it, is it normal?

Here’s my list. Pro - the avatars are cute. Con - hate the new look, bring back post numbers, bring back seeing a red star next to s thread you have posted on, no reason to say senior member twice - bring back location, no need to have the time of the post in such a large dominant font, absolutely want nothing to do with integrating CC and FB - huge privacy issue.

The value of CC comes from the knowledge base - parents who have been through the process multiple times and are willing to share their info. These changes are simply going to alienate those posters. This new look is an epic fail. Hate it.

Ok, I gave myself time to sleep on this, and I still hate. Seriously, ■■■ were you guys trying to accomplish? I’m not going to apologize for being harsh because it’s clear that they really don’t care about what the long-time posters think. CC is taking a new direction, apparently, and I have no idea what it is but it’s not pretty and it hurts.
You guys screwed up. Plain and simple. I hope you revert these changes like you took away the “greenies” when you screwed up with those.
Unless you guys were trying to kick off the old timers. In which case, hey- mission accomplished ! Give yourselves a pat on the back because you guys certainly did what you set out to do.
I’m off now. Too much eye strain. Screw this.
