New Year, New Look for College Confidential!

I can’t get on on Chrome, so I have to use IE, which is much slower on my computer. Why is that?

hate new format. you took something that worked and broke it. visually very unappealing.

I’m having a trouble determining which page I am on when reading through a thread because all of the page numbers are blue. The page I am on is on a teeny tiny bit darker blue. So for someone like me with visual discrimination issues, it is very difficult to tell which page I should click to get to the next page, because you also removed the “next page” arrow. I hope you find a way to make that easier to navigate.

Is there a screen where we can see the list of all the discussion where we participated and which may have received a reply (or several), like the old “all posts” feature?

No, MYO. You can see your previous posts but you can’t see whether or not there’s been a response.

Dysfunctional, dysfunctional, dysfunctional.

I liked being able to subscribe to a school’s forum. All I had to do then was go to my profile page, and they would be listed along with an indication if any threads on the forum had been updated. I am following 12 schools, and now I have to create a bookmark on my browser to each forum and check each individually. Using the site is not pleasant anymore.

And the duplicate post thing does not work, either.

Hobsons owns the Common App. They own Naviance. They own College Confidential, too, correct?

It has been a tough 6 months of software tech changes, many that were beta tested and still failed. In the scheme of all three, this is the least of the worst changes made by the Hobsons companies serving students, their parents and those interested and serving others in college admissions process, overall.

This software ptobably doesn’t allow as many personal preference changes, such as screen color or font color or size or whatever.

In terms of my irritation level with these new changes, well…I have been irritated before when my favorite sub-forum (which shall not be named) left, and still came back. Posting less, lurking less. Probably providing less valuable information to parents and students than I once did.

The difference between then and now is that I literally am hurting my eyes even typing this. What is it an 8 font? On an ipad, it is pretty small. A few minutes of this bright white and I feel like I am hurtling into a migraine.

I hope it all works out and know that for every person who likes the changes, someone else will not. Old timers might leave, but that happens to every forum.

It is a gigantic time suck, anyways.

Wow, your post just explained so much, SLS.
(Also, RIP your 2 bil posts)

FWIW, I’ve seen a whopping TWO people that like the changes and dozens that don’t.

Between the tiny font and huge amount of glaring white, the site is harder to read. It hurts my eyes after about five minutes. The old site was clunky and old-fashioned but this is worse.

I am not a person who finds all change uncomfortable but, having been involved with some blog and website designs, it seems like this redesign was a step backwards. It doesn’t reflect best practices in use and design. And it’s so uncomfortable to use that if it doesn’t change, I’ll be posting and reading less.

I never use this site on a computer, anymore. Maybe it would be an improvement. I am strictly on smartphone or ipad.

The one post poster’s compliments makes me wonder, too. Are they reincarnations of others that came back? Are they new posters?

-My Bookmarks, not My Threads. The latter are only ones you started.
-Once you click on a subscription/bookmarked thread, the next time clicking on it will take you to the last unread, automatically. Once I figured this out, I LOVE it.
-If you participate you are automatically bookmarking it, still…I think. So same as first item.
-I wish they would because I’ve seen a million different threads where people are trying to figure this stuff out and are getting ad-hoc answers, like mine here.
-The little flame means it’s a “hot” topic which is triggered by some # of replies.

Now I have a huge problem. I have unchecked the e-mail boxes in the notifications screen and I am still getting tons of emails announcing that so and so has commented on a thread I have bookmarked. I mean I got dozens per hour. I can’t make them stop here so I just started reporting them as spam in gmail. Sorry, but that’s likely to affect a lot of other people…fix that ASAP.

Samurai, for real? I don’t know why I am always so naive but I somehow thought this site was not connected to any other college-related businesses.

Since the redesign I have probably been on for a total of a half hour or less, and not at all on my iPhone (which for some reason won’t update since Friday??). I have loved the site for a lot of reasons–learned an enormous amount and made a lot of wonderful virtual friends. I just find the “update” so hard to use (let alone read) that I don’t know that it’s worth the frustration right now. I don’t think it will take long for the site analytics to show how many regular posters are dropping off or cutting back.

Wish we could have a choice of “classic” CC or this.

I never updated to the stupid yellow CC because it hurt my eyes. I was grateful for the old blue option.

I’m bitter but it’s free so I realize that my voice is absolutely, completely irrelevant.

Add me to the list of those who dislike the new format as well.

The old one wasn’t the greatest, but I was completely fine with it. I liked how it showed location and that type of things, I liked the emoticons on that one better (yeah, that’s a pretty petty reason, but still), and I don’t really think all the stuff with Facebook integration is necessary. The look in general is confusing and too Facebook-y.

Can’t we have an option whether to have the old one and this one, like how we had various options before?

Thanks, OHMomof2.

I tried to right click the bookmarks to open them all in several tabs but it doesn’t work, though. It’s taken me to the Financial Aid page every time. However if I click on one, remember not to close it, go back to bookmark, go down to the next one, click again, and do on and so forth, I can do it, but it’s SO MUCH LESS user-friendly and so much less efficient. :s

The tutorial should have been uploaded BEFORE the website redesign, so that we could practice. At the very least it should be ready now. I know some kids like to tinker around, but not the kids who come to ask a question once and not the adults who have other things to do.

For some reason, the new redesign hurts my eyes (the white?) and the font looks smaller or harder to read.

The FB integration is a giant privacy issue in my opinion. For adults AND kids.

The FB integration is optional and I don’t think you can do anything now that you couldn’t before. If you use Firefox, this add-on will let you change the background colors, fonts, etc: <a href=“https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/color-that-site/”>https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/color-that-site/&lt;/a&gt;

Anyone can link a url from anywhere to Facebook at any time. I’m not sure if this is any different - other than CC makes it "easier’ to do and from fooling around with it it appears that it links the thread - not the individual post.

I’m okay with most of the changes. I do want to be able to jump directly to new posts since I was last on, but I believe that will be fixed. And I love seeing the avatars. Now I have a visual for the screen names. Very helpful.
