Are there any methods to check the exact date of older posts? MM/YYYY is just not enough for me.
First of all, CC has been a tremendous help to me in the past months on a number of issues as my kid navigates the process of going to college. I will continue to use this site, and learn the new system, since the information has been invaluable to me - particularly feedback and advice from other parents. I would like to second the previous comments from other posters that we be able to bookmark subtopics instead of individual threads since I am commonly interested in multiple threads in a subtopic. I use the CC app almost exclusively and am looking forward to that app being available soon. I also second the previous posts on returning numbers to posts. There do some to be several software glitches that need to be worked out but I am sure you are aware of them. (I have a hard time deciphering whether the problems I am experiencing on this site are related to my profile vs a general site problem). I also second the comment about automatic e-mails when a new post on a bookmarked thread - I had 98 e-mail messages in the span of 3 hours! - that was a quick unbookmark. Hopefully I fixed that through my preferences since I don’t see these e-mails anymore. One more suggestion: Since I am a user who rarely uses the desktop site - It would have been nice to have a simple notice on the home page of the status of the CC app for iPhones and Androids - or perhaps some sort of pinned thread? I am not tech-savvy in the least, but it is only through reading a thread on this desktop version that I realized the CC app is not working at the moment. I do appreciate the confidential part of CC and worry as well that the Facebook link will lose this anonymity. Looking forward to a smooth running site again!
@swimdogmom We changed the email notification opt-in yesterday. When we went live with the site everyone had email notifications for bookmarks on by default. We did not understand how much email this would generate. After receiving feedback and discovering the amount in our own inboxes we have now opted everyone out by default. The emails should stop. You will need to change you notification preferences to opt back into the emails if you decide they are useful. We are also looking at other options to make email notifications more useful.
Thanks for your feedback and patience as we continue addressing issues and respond to feedback from the community.
Not sure I understand about the anonymity concerns with facebook.
If someone else clicks the facebook link for your post, there is no identifying information posted to facebook - not even your CC username. If someone follows the link back here, they see only your username.
If you click the facebook link, you get a post in your feed, but again there is nothing identifying who posted it in CC.
If you are worried about your words being seen outside of CC - it has always been possible to post links in facebook, just not so easily. I believe you had to cut and paste the link.
And your posts have always been googleable. It’s not like they are hidden.
I’ll add my voice to the many who have asked to bring back the yellow dots, or some other means of indicating when there is a new thread or new post in a forum like “XYZ College.” If I’m trying to follow a particular college or set of colleges that my kid is applying to, I want to read all the new posts in that forum but I don’t want to open up 6-10 new tabs to check if there is anything new, and I don’t want to have to bookmark every thread to get the notifications. If there’s a way to bookmark an entire forum, I can’t find it.
I was STILL unable to log in with my old user name…any attempt to log in or to change my password was met with an “exception” error message. So I used a different email to create a new account. If you see momannoyed instead of mommusic you will know that is me, and I am annoyed! I don’t like the changes, there are many bugs, and the “Contact” button on the bottom of the page also generates an “exception” message so how can a person contact you to complain?
I am glad my youngest is almost out of college. It was fun being on here and sharing, esp. with my parent-pals in the college class of 2010 (G#, I will miss your newsy updates most of all!) but I probably won’t be back.
Oh, and the dropdown for selecting the year of your birth when you sign up for a new account doesn’t work either. The earliest I could get was 1996. Dream on.
Sorry, the “contact” button generates a “PAGE NOT FOUND” message.
@momannoyed The footer links not working is an issue we are aware of and are planning to update. You can find the contact us page at <a href=“http://www.collegeconfidential.com/contact.htm”>http://www.collegeconfidential.com/contact.htm</a> or email <a href="mailto:admin@collegeconfidential.com">admin@collegeconfidential.com</a> for support. Thank you for your feedback.
The following item was resolved today:
We experienced an issue with email from our sign on system being marked as spam from certain providers. We have implemented a fix for this and worked out a solution to email anyone that had an unresolved registration email or forgot password email a new link. If you are still experiencing any issues not receiving mail from our system for forgot passwords or registration, please email <a href="mailto:admin@collegeconfidential.com">admin@collegeconfidential.com</a> with the details so we can assist you.
@Momannoyed: Did you try clearing out all of your cookies and restarting your browser?
Just me or this ‘new look’…mererly seems like they scrambled everything all around??? Something is wrong with the page formatting as the header lines are now jumbled in with the graphics at the top of the page. I hope all of these changes also included some updated functionality…so far its just annoying to use.

FWIW, I hate it.
Very glad our CC viewing days are, for the most part, over.
Until the next time, of course.<br>
By then, maybe, there will be a another new version.
I don’t hate it, but I don’t think it provides an improvement in the user experience <em>yet</em>.
This wasn’t just a visual change, they changed the underlying forum software. So we may never get all of the functionality of the old board back, it just may not be available. There are different ways to do some of the old things, it is a matter of learning the new site.
From looking at the VanillaForums web sites, it seems to provide a pretty high level of customization of the look. So hopefully the powers-that-be will accept some of the feedback and either modify the layout to tighten things up and/or provide users the ability to do some customization (similar to the old CC Classic mode).
I don’t use the site on mobile/tablet, can’t comment on those.
I don’t like change either, but I assume they had valid business reasons for making the change. I do wish it had less of a feel of beta software - using your customers as unwilling guinea pigs to debug your software is generally not the best approach IMO.
I also cannot find the “manage my account” page or whatever it was called. Can we still do PM’s? Can we see someone’s post history so we can be sure they are who they say they are? So many questions.
If you click your user name at the very top, you will get to your account page.Click the “Inbox” label on the left side to get to your PMs.
Or, you can click the envelope icon at the top right, this gives you a list of your last few PMs, select “all messages” at the bottom to get to your inbox.
How do I change my picture? Can’t figure it out.
I REALLY miss the “jump to first unread” button and would never integrate with Facebook or Twitter
To change your picture go to <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profile/picture”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/profile/picture</a>
“Jump to first unread” is now automatic, but you will need to click on each topic once - the next time you go to that thread it will work as intended.
Could some one please explain what “points” are, how you earn them, and what the point of having them is!
