Does anyone have any opinions on NYFA’s 2 year (of their 1 year) musical theatre programs? Also–and I know this seems like a dumb question, but I can’t seem to find this information anywhere on their website–does anyone know if (for their 1/2 year programs) their semesters go into the summer or if they have summers off? All I can see about their dates on the website is the starting date/ending date, like “September 2016 to May 2018,” and that they have a Holiday break in December.
I am not speaking from any solid experience with NYFA, but since no one else has answered perhaps this will be a bit helpful.
I met and had a masterclass with the director of theatre and musical theatre auditions at NYFA. He was an absolute pleasure and had great advice for us. Hopefully the rest of the staff is just as friendly If you want his email, PM me.
That being said, I haven’t seen a lot of great stuff online about NYFA’s MT program and the way it is viewed in the community. Some people appear to view it as a waste of money. It appears, however, to have a good reputation for its other programs - just MT seems to be slacking.
The faculty looks good, so I’m not sure why there seems to be a negative idea of the program. In my opinion, on the surface, it seems to not be your best bet for good MT training (although I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover).
Once again, please take all of this with a grain of salt! My experience with NYFA is very limited. (I’ve noticed that there is basically no one who has posted about their experience with NYFA MT - perhaps that speaks for itself?)
Have a great day!
