Hey I don’t mean to seem lazy but can anyone tell roughly how long it would take to drive from NYC to Boston, Massachusetts? my family is traveling to NY soon and I thought we could check BU is this sort of unrealistic to make a drive up there in say a few hours.

The drive usually takes about 4 hours for me. It all depends on how the traffic is. If you leave at the right time of day, I don't see why it would be more than a fairly quick trip. I live in Jersey and have done one-day trips to Boston numerous times in which I leave in the early morning and am back the same night

yea it's 4 hours and a pretty easy drive cuz u stay on the same highway the majority of the time.

You may also want to consider taking the Acela train. It's a little more than 3 hours, and you avoid the crazy Boston drivers.

NY drivers are pretty bad themselves ;)

thanks you guys
think ill take the train!

How much does the train cost? What is the cheapest way to go to New York from Boston?

www.amtrak.com
www.greyhound.com

The absolute cheapest way are Chinese bus companies like FungWah.

greyhound costs the same as fungwah if click on traveldeals on the bottom of the greyhound website ($15 one way/ $30 round trip)

Greyhound and Fungwah cost the same now. Greyhound lowered their prices to match the chinatown buses. DS says he now uses Greyhound....not Chinatown. There are more time options, and better service.

They also don't catch fire or roll over.

There also tend to be less sketchy people on Greyhound

u guys are too funny =)

The Fung Wah buses I've taken usually have more leg room than the Greyhound I took. And those little trash bags right next to your seat are a nice touch.

I plan on visiting my parents in Jersey every now and then, but I can’t decide between Amtrak or a bus, like BoltBus or Megabus.

BoltBus is nearly $80 cheaper than Amtrak for a round trip…but I can’t move around, I keep hearing about bus crashes, like the Megabus in Chicago, and the few times I took a long bus drive there were some unhygienic people around -_-

Amtrak has reward points, though I don’t know how quickly that adds up. What to do?

Personally, I use Amtrak for most of my travel to/from Boston (from Long Island). My parents prefer it because they think it’s safer, so they help pay. Basically, if I’m travelling on a random weekend, I’ll try to take the BoltBus and save some money, but if it’s a major travel time, say around Thanksgiving or Christmas, I take Amtrak, because I’ve heard horror stories of the bus taking 6-8 hours because of bad traffic, accidents, etc.

Oh, and about Amtrak rewards… At the rate I’m going, I’ll have enough for a one way trip by the time I graduate… so not that helpful.
