Is it easier to get admitted into NYU through the Arts than it is through its Journalism program?
Tisch is by far competitive than the Arts and Science School so it depends on if your willing to take the risk of applying to Tisch considering NYU only lets you apply to one school. If you are considering applying to Tisch though you should have great grades, and rigorous courses and in addition amazing artistic talent and innovations. If you don’t think you have that covered apply to Arts and Science ED and if you get in, you can always transfer schools within the system later.
Many majors within Tisch require an artistic evaluation that is even more rigorous than the academic evaluation. And acceptance rates for some majors (like my D’s) are under 10%
Tisch far outweighs the rest of the university (Aside from Stern) in terms of the prestige it has in its field. You’d have better chances applying to the CAS. What field are you looking to go into? That’s the part of NYU you should apply to.
@Jadenman You cannot make blanket statements like that about admissions or even prestige. Both Tisch and Steinhardt have audition and portfolio based majors that can be very competitive. Your audition portfolio will account for 50% of your admissions criteria. Academics, etc. will count for the other 50%.
Stern is very competitive, but there are many majors at CAS that are equally prestigious–particularly the philosophy and mathematics departments.
@Meghancollege What major would you consider applying for at Tisch if you are considering journalism at CAS? There are no majors in Tisch that are journalism related. Perhaps you could consider a communications major through Steinhardt as an alternative. Plus, as a journalism major at CAS, you need to declare a second major to graduate. So you could decide to apply for communications at Steinhardt and then declare the double major in journalism through CAS. You could major in Tisch and then double major in journalism. But that is sometimes hard to schedule and you would have to pass the artistic review at Tisch in one of the arts related majors.
