Hi! I’m currently a junior in high school. I’ve been extremely stressed looking at colleges, and to be honest I regret slacking off last year, and it’s caused my previously ok gpa to drop down to a 4.1 weighted. I haven’t been doing too well recently either, I’ve been getting a B average in my classes (which I’m all taking at the honors level). My parents have pretty high expectations in terms of college, and they don’t actually know how bad I’m doing in school (rip) but I was wondering if NYU would be a realistic goal/school to apply to with a gpa like mine? I’ve studied hard for the SATs, and I think I can score at least a 1500 when I retake them in May, but I don’t have many strong extracurriculars other then being the first chair flutist in my school band and track. (Photography is a big hobby but I don’t think it’ll be useful). I really love New York City and everything about it, but did I screw up my chances too much? I know I’m gonna be against some people with much better grades and leadership experience, but is it worth a try?
Obviously, it’s worth a try, assuming that you can work your GPA a few points higher and indeed score over 1500 on the SAT. Your lack of leadership will be detrimental to your application. If NYU is indeed a school you want to go to, definitely apply, but consider it a high reach school.
alright thanks
