Thank you, Arthur, for clarifying this information from the source as it is important that misinformation not mislead prospective students. I appreciate your taking the time to contribute information about Tisch when there has been some incorrect or misleading information floating around on these forums from time to time, even if it has been inadvertant.

thanks so much for the info. since we have a friend planning to attend, we're very interested in the cost. i'm a little confused though. does saying "i know nothing about a substantial increase" mean she hasn't heard yet, that there will not be an increase at all, that there will not be a substantial increase, or just what? our friend is very concerned about whether she'll be able to afford to attend so if we could have a little more info? how great if nyu plans on keeping their tuitiion steady!!!

Ditto Susan, and thanks to Arthur for making the extra effort to come on here and and answer my question.

Razorback, I think you would be best just wait until March. It will be here before we know it!

xxx,Mary Anna

You're probably right. Hopefully all will stay the same as indicated. We all appreciate the good info.

Razorback, I don't know the answers to your questions in post #102 and am not privy to information to respond to those. However, in post #104, you are saying "hopefully all will stay the same as indicated." Mr. Bartow's post did not "indicate" that all would stay the same. His comment was that Dean Campbell does not know about "such a substantial increase" as Mary Anna was talking about in post #77. In my view, I would not then infer that tuition was indicated to be staying the same. Saying that no information about a substantial increase is known is talking about the indicator of "substantial". The opposite of substantial is not necessarily "staying the same". MOST college tuitions rise each year. I don't know NYU's plans AT ALL but would expect tuition to rise to some extent each year like other schools. I read Mr. Bartow's statement to indicate that there is no knowledge of a substantial increase. He did not indicate that it would stay the same either. I think we'll all have to wait and see. Anyone who is applying to college has to go by the current tuition and fees as their guide as there is no other way to go about it. But one should expect tuition to rise each year at most schools. Even public school budgets at home rise some each year.

I have a question, and I probably should know this as I am going there, but, what is NYU's official mascot? I remember on the info tour, they mentioned how something with the Bobst (sp?) Library made the unofficial mascot the Bobcat...but I don't know what it actually is. Any help would be appreciated.

chris

You got it, the Bobcat.

Ahhhh!

I just found out I've been placed in CAP21!! My first choice studio oh I am so excited! Now I just have to learn to dance haha. I had to call in but the long distance charges were soooo worth it. :D:D:D

Yay deegee! It WAS worth it. Good for you! Glad your dreams came true. Hope you meet my daughter at some point. She is a current freshman in CAP21. She loves it and I bet you will as well.

deegee,
I've been watching for your posting and silently pulling for you. Congrats!

yeah deegee!!! nice...that means we will be chillin together in nyc

NYU's mascot is the Violet...I've never heard of the Bobcat thing, but the sports teams go by the Violets.

The Bobcat is the official mascot for my alma mater, and violet is the official color. The suited Bobcat is even rented out for outside events or parties.

My daughter attended an event during orientation and has a photo of the NYU Bobcat (person in costume) mascot. At a recent extended family gathering, I heard her joking about the mascot for NYU, the bobcat (sports is not big there).

I am also an NYU student, and since the sports teams are called the Violets, I assumed that was the mascot. The violet was the original mascot, which is why they keep that name, however, the bobcat is now considered the mascot.

Can you imagine a giant violet awkwardly waddling across the court, trying to strike fear in the hearts of the opposing team? LOL

The tuition at Tisch is increased to $50,060.00. Just as Mary Anna had said. Sticker shock!!!!

Sissy, if that figure is the estimated budget cost for next year (care to provide a link?), it is the amount for total costs, including housing, mealplans, transportation, books and supplies, and personal expenses. It's NOT the figure for tuition. Also, that represents, if accurate, an increase of approximately 4% from this year, hardly the "substantial increase" that MaryAnna predicted.

I posted this on another thread where the "tuition" for Tisch was posted today. Since it was posted here, as well, I am reprinting my post here too.

While I haven't seen next year's tuition, fees, and expenses, please be aware that when comparing schools' costs, that figures be apples to apples. For instance, for the current school year, NYU/Tisch fees are as follows:

Tuition and fees $34,780
Room and Board $11,440
Books and Supplies $700
Travel varies
Personal Expenses $1000

TOTAL $47,920

As discussed on the forum previously, when comparing the fees from one school to another, it is important to know if you are discussing just tuition, or tuition/room/board, or all of that plus books and personal expenses. So, the total above for the current school year is for all those things. I imagine the total in post #117 is for all those things and not just tuition for the coming school year.

Sometimes when people discuss the fees at a school, they just combine tuition/room/board. If comparing Tisch fees, and if using $50,060, that would presumably include all the things as in the figures that are published for this year that I just posted and thus put alongside any other schools' total fees that include the variables of books and personal expenses. Tisch is indeed an expensive school. I am clarifying what I believe the posted figure would include for purposes of comparisons, in case readers interpret that as "tuition" as posted or even just tuition/room/board, as I do not believe that is what that figure represents.

I just called the Bursar's office at NYU to get next year's fees. I was told that they will not be set until mid May. As far as fees that were sent out to new acceptees, those are considered estimates, I was told. I was told that nobody knows the EXACT fees until mid May. As well, like with any college, fees will increase in each academic year. Therefore, the fee total this coming year will be more than the ones I posted from this current year. This is true at my other child's college as well, and at many other schools.

Don't fall for stunts posted by the Happy MT posters.
