I know a lot of kids from NY go to wash u so, if you're a new yorker:

Is it too far away from home?
How often do you travel home and is it too expensive? If you're not particularly wealthy, how do you manage traveling back and forth?
What's the culture like down there? Is there a "midwestern" culture, or are there enough kids from other states?

I'd generally rather stay closer to home, but Wash. U seems like such a great place...

Thanks.

bump........................does anyone from ny go to wash u?

I'm from NJ, so I can somewhat answer your questions. As for being far away from home, I don't mind it - Although I'm not near most of my friends from HS and parents, I dont see that as an issue. I travel home for Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break (and then head elsewhere for part of the break), and Summer Break. As for traveling, I fly out of Philly, as it's only around $250 for a round trip ticket (non-stop flight), compared with $375 at Newark, or $300+ at LGA & JFK (I'm the same distance from EWR and PHL). Southwest has tickets for as little as $150 from LGA to STL, with a stopover at Chicago Midway.

It's a midwestern culture, as it seems a bit more relaxed out in St. Louis, but there are plenty of kids from NY/NJ/CT at Wash U.

I'm in New York (originally NJ), and definitely very interested in Wash U. From what I've read, at least, it doesn't seem like north easterners would have too much trouble getting adjusted as a large part of the student body is from the area.

I'd love to hear anyone's opinions who have lived it, though!
