It has been said that journalism is a dying field. I am interested in magazine journalism, but who knows what the demand for magazines will be by the time I graduate. But it is to my understanding that Newhouse requires classes in the A&S school, which will make students well-rounded. Besides these classes that I am required/encouraged to take, would it be possible for me to major in English or Writing and Rhetoric as well as Magazine Journalism in Newhouse? Would the workload be impossible? Would this be a smart move on my part?

If this is possible, how do I go about filling out the school selection on my supplement. For my first choice do I put a dual degree program with English or Writing and then Magazine Journalism? Will I then be allowed to apply for the Florence Study Abroad program?

I am very interested in fashion, but rather than attend a strictly fashion oriented school because I'm not positive that it is what I want to do, I desire a well rounded education. But have any Newhouse graduates gone on to work for fashion magazines?

If admitted into Newhouse, is my decision to pursue Magazine Journalism binding and limited? Would I also take some of the same classes for broadcast, or newspaper journalism majors?

On the website, the Course Catalog did not work. Any one know any interesting classes off hand, within Newhouse?

I've been on my HS track team for 4 years, and I hopefully plan to continue that at Syracuse. Would my participation in track as well as my possible majors be too much? Am I setting myself up for failure?

1) yes, in fact, it is mandatory that Newhouse students minor or major in another academic area outside of Newhouse
2)No, do not apply for A&S/Newhouse unless you want A&S to be your primary school (advising, etc)…you can double major without the dual enrollment. If you do apply for dual enrollment though, I think you could apply for Florence, but you do understand that it would require you to miss your freshman year first semester here?
3)yes, in fact I know grads who didn’t graduate Newhouse but rather A&S who are working at fashion mags…
4)you do not declare your major in Newhouse until soph year

5) google Myslice: go to course catelog without logging in…

6)no idea…(see I don’t have all the answers)

thanks very much rodney.

hey

I applied ED as double major to newhouse/whitman. My essay and Ec’s are off the charts (in a good way, according to my dean) but my ACT (28) and my gpa (3.3) are a little low. However, I attend one of the top 5 competitive schools in NYS and I lived in europe for 12 years, (not a citizen)

Do you think I can get in? pleaaaaseeee help me out
