NEWSFLASH! Harvard now offering new IBM T-43 laptops

A big rakeoff for students and alums buying them through Harvard.

Lots of new features and technology, including a built it DVD-burner, in a package with many options. "Recommended" versions range from $1,587 to $1,977.

https://www.post.harvard.edu/ibm/images/ibm_march05.pdf

http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/thinkpad/3dtours/tseries/t_series.html?ca=t3dtour&me=W&met=inli&re=nbhome',640,480

It's a sweet deal, but 5lbs is just too much for me. Having used a clunking laptop for several years, I've really discovered what a surprising difference weight makes in usability.

Then you want the Thinkpad X-40 ... 2.7 lbs. Also available. Discounted from $2,474 to $1,896.

"Intel Pentium M 1.4GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 512MB
RAM, 40GB Hard Disk, X4 Media Slice with DVDRW
Multiburner, 12.1”XGA TFT (1024x768) Intel
855GME Integrated Graphics, Gigabit Ethernet,
802.11a/b/g Wireless, 2 USB 2.0 ports, 3.04lb

Here is the "tour":

That's more like it! Thanks Byerly...

IBM laptops are amazing :D

hi Byerly, how do we purchase these comps? I got in Harvard already and i tried the link to get it, but apparently i need a login and password to enter the site to purchase for discounted deals. Do i have to wait until i Enroll? I really want to get a laptop with discount from Harvard b4 i enroll.... Help me out

Almost every school that you could end up choosing does this. It isn't limited to Harvard. To answer the last question, you usually can't buy one until you choose your school and recieve your net id.

You have to enroll first. Anyway, I'd wait until July. The prices sometimes drop a bit in the summer.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Yale's deal was with Dell - NOT IBM:

See, for example: http://info.med.yale.edu/eph/phlibrary/delllaptops.html

No, Yale has a deal with Dell, but you can also access deals with IBM that were similar to those.

You know what they say at Yale : "We're ALMOST as good,"

It's not ALMOST, I said similar because I didn't look at the exact prices and configurations, plus I was looking at Yale's computer offers last year and those prices are not comparable to today's prices.
