Ok, heres the deal...im current majoring in physics at one school and will be attempting to transfer to university at buffalo for the upcoming spring semester to major in mechanical engineering, if I dont get in i will most likely go the next year fall 2013. My GPA isnt too good right now but if all goes as planned I should have a 3.0-3.1 by the end of the fall semester 2012. I was just wondering when I should start applying to engineering internships. I want to start after the first semester ends so I can have a higher GPA but im worried that its going to be too late. Also, will I have much more trouble/not be able to get an engineering internship if im currently majoring in physics? If I start majoring in engineering the spring semester should i start applying then? Thank you.

Seems like many students apply for summer internships in the Fall Semester, though you certainly can send your resume later. I suppose you can speak with advisors re: places looking for interns, or use the internet to find jobs.

FYI- My son is at UB. They have an engineering job fair each Fall. You can give out your resume and meet reps from companies hiring. Follow up with calls, applications and more resumes sent to the places you like. My son and his GF both got summer internships this way (between sophomore and jr years and not between Jr and Sr year.

Good luck. UB has a great engineering program.
