My son is attending Wake in the fall and I am hoping that it will be money well spent. Are you happy there? Are you thriving? Are the professors interesting? I know that I am just a worried mom sending her first born to college, but I am hoping to hear from some current Wake students.

I'm very happy at Wake. I'm a science major, and so it was important to me that I go to a university where major research is happening, but at the same time, I wanted to go somewhere that I could really meet my professors and they'd get to know me. I think that Wake was the perfect choice.

on the lenovo site, the t60 has extendable memory(RAM) upto 4 gigs. damn i wish we could upgrade.

meh, my computer has like 1 gig or less (I don't know) of memory and it runs fine :)

Yeah I don't care about memory, you can always buy an external hard drive. I'm happy with the computer we get.

an external drive is a good idea. I think im gonna get one. dont get me wrong, im happy with the computer too.

Yeah that's why I don't worry about the memory. I'd almost rather have an external hard drive. It's a lot more convenient, you can put not so important stuff on there and save the computer memory for more important things.

umm...an external hard drive won't help with memory.

well, when i talked about memory i did mean RAM. but but, if you put all your movies and stuff on a external disk, your computer wont have to deal with a lot of load. so 1 GB would be awesome.

Yeah that's exactly what I meant.

wow...i really wish they would let us upgrade to vista...it is nearly pointless for them to give us computers with a dual core processor when xp is not designed wiht them in mind, and is not able to optimize the capabilities. we would get so much more out of the investment if we were able to use vista, since it is designed with multi-threading in mind...might have to talk to IT about this

Just remember that if something goes wrong with your computer, the first thing they're probably going to do is wipe the harddrive and put the original load back on.

Well considering Vista hasn't even come out yet...

but it will come out sometime during the school year...i know they can't give the computers with it pre-loaded, i just wish we could have the option of upgrading
ginnyvere- im sure you're right on that...backing up files would be a must

Just saw the new laptop. NO fingerprint reader. Emsibdn is sad. Looked about as fast as the R51 too. Slimmer, which was nice. But otherwise, disappointing, at least at first glance. Heads up to those upgrading.

WHAT!!! no finger print reader??

the specs looked good. but no finger print reader sucks ass. big time. i thought we couldnt upgrade. :( :(

i think she means those who are entering their junior year and getting a new computer. :)

I am sad too. I wanted a finger print reader :(

That's a shame about the fingerprint reader, but I've spoken to someone at the grad school, and she said that even though their computers came with the fingerprint reader, they were told not to use them because they were just too sensitive and it would be too easy to get locked out of her computer.
