NHS office?

should i even be in NHS, and if so, should i apply for an office position (P, VP, Sec, Treas)? Judge its worth in the context of college admissions. The only plus I see is that I can recieve my honors chords for graduation...

i'm in nhs as a treasurer, but the whole organization is a joke at our school anyway so i can't really comment

same here.....there isnt any point to it...the advisor is always like "you are in a PRESTIGIOUS organization" but the only thing every uses it for is for college apps. We're all too lazy...I dont even think any of us are graduating with those cords (we're cheap too).

It's definately worth it to pump up your college apps. If you run for an NHS office DO NOT run for vice president. That's the one everybody runs for. You'll have a much better chance with one of the others.

NHS is very important in my high school. There is 30 juniors and 30 seniors. You have to apply to get in, and many are rejected. We do alot, and are known around the community and the school. Officers do alot, i would definitely run for office if youre up to it. It takes alot of dedication, but colleges love it.

my school's nhs is also a joke. but the new board truely wants to change it. do you guys have any ideas to help make NHS more meaningful? like the new president wants to have required group hours and individual hours rather than just individual hours.

I don't think my NHS does much either. It's just individual hours. Also it's like 10 hours total or something. I did more in NJHS in middle school.

NHS is not a hook for college. Being an NHS officer is a generic EC.

wats nhs???

National Honor Society.

Prestigious in some schools, jokes in others.

Joke at mine! The one event we had this year was a walk-a-thon we had to raise money for a school scholarship, and I didn't even have to go! And so far I'm running for president unopposed. I will change it though, I'm thinking about having all our members go to the local elementary school and have a FCAT reading night or something. And Relay For Life! So what if SGA is doing it? Members from that only fill half of NHS, so we will have plenty left (a dumb reason not to do it this year!)
