I know some Penn State campuses, like Erie and Schuylkill, have around 80% acceptance rates. I was wondering if you guys knew any that we’re still worth going to(nice campuses and social life) but easier to get into? And overall opinions on attending Penn State branch campuses.
Thanks in advance!
You still get a penn state degree! Doesn’t matter what branch it is!!
Actually, it does - while you still get a PSU degree, the branch is indicated on your transcript and, I believe, on your diploma (The Pennsylvania State University, Abington).
If you’re borderline for PSU (3.4 GPA, for instance), apply DUS/summer session, and choose an alternate campus.
Erie, Harrisburg, and Altoona would be the top 3 campuses, in that order. Altoona is about 25mn from State College, Erie is a less commuter, high-quality stem college, and Altoona is another option.
If you’re below 3.0, you could pick Greater Allegheny, it’s essentially open admission, has got dorms, is within easy driving distance to Pittsburgh, and after 2 years you can move to UP for your major.
I know this thread is a little old, but I wanted to note – my daughter got into Altoona with a 2.9 and a 1500 SAT. So Altoona (and presumably other branch campuses) are not out of reach for the student around 3.0.
