Your January scores won’t reach Stanford in time for consideration.
gasp oh no…omg!.. wow thanks…122 views and only 1 reply? wow people… aren’t we all thinking ivy? don’t be part of the audience just looking, speak up1 and @bkmaester thanks again how bout the others do i stand a chance?
You’re not getting many replies, because u are asking the SAME question being asked by hordes of other int’l students who are narrowly focused on only HYPS. Your chances are abysmally bleak, because the reality is that the chances at HYPS for ALL int’l students who haven’t won a Nobel Prize by age 17 is abysmally bleak.
If you are determined to go to university in the USA, then it would have been pragmatic to apply to a wider selection of schools.
It doesn’t matter if people reply or not because ‘chances’ are useless for such highly selective schools. Also there is a forum specifically for chances so it doesn’t clog the other forums. Make sure when you apply that you don’t mention childhood milestones, just high school accomplishments. I’m not sure Jan scores are accepted at any of the schools, be sure to check the websites.
@BrownParent Harvard accepts Jan sat as long as you choose them as the original recipient.
@Oddenigma It is not possible to chance anybody, and even if it was, it would be impossible to do so without objective data like grades and scores.
For your sake, I hope that your English is better than it seems to be.
@GMTplus7 internationals are not focused on HYP out of choice. These colleges are both need blind and provide 100% aid, though the same can be said of MIT, Amherst and Williams .
Op, do you need aid?(not important for HYP, but very important for S and the vast majority of US Universities.)
There are only 5 American colleges that are need blind and provide 100 percent aid to all international students who are admitted: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Amherst and MIT.
@ThankYouforHelp Thank you for the correction, Wiliams is no longer need blind.
Your best bet is probably MIT because they cut through the noise and target those students with the most promise -something that can be expressed in nontraditional ways-something MIT appreciates more than other schools. Also, they have highly ranked (like #1) in areas people don’t usually think of as being offered at MIT.
@lostaccount He can not apply to MIT. MIT requires two SAT subject tests, AND the Reasoning test or the TOEFL. Since there is only one remaining SAT test date, applying to MIT will prevent him from applying to any other college.
That said, Harvard is also looking for potential, and relative to population, Nigeria is somewhat under-represented.
President of Nigeria? Ivy leagues like promising students, but as for chances, that can’t be determined because its always ridiculously hard for international applicants. Just try your best and hope.
@BrownParent Yale and Harvard and princeton do accept January scores.
“HYPS for ALL int’l students who haven’t won a Nobel Prize by age 17 is abysmally bleak.”
@GMTplus7, Sorry but that is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. I know many international students who got into those school, and they are no were near the level of winning a Nobel prize
@bkmaester I agree. That is not true AT ALL. I am one such example.
In fact, It seems that If you are an interesting applicant with very good grades, ECs and essays, and do not come from somewhere like India or China, your chances are not that terrible. I may be wrong though.
It is also noteworthy that If you would be admitted as a US citizen, you will be admitted as an int’l, or at least that is what Harvard claims by this :
While it’s pure hyperbole to say that you’ll only be admitted if you win a Nobel Prize, you do need to be exceptional.
Even if you are, your odds are only 1-2%. THat’s how tough the competition is at these universities (in the RD round, odds are 3% overall).
I didn’t say they wouldn’t get in. I said the odds are daunting. I’ve read threads by other international students who have received generous scholarships from other schools that didn’t have a mega-stampede of thousands of int’l students. e.g., WPI.
I completely agree @Soheils, hopefully that fact will play out for my RD round. And also that fact that my country is highly under-represented might help.
oh aii thanks guys
Have you applied to any university with merit scholarships? Those are the only safeties for internationals.
A problem is that most of those offers would have December deadlines so if you haven’t yet, it’s too late.
Odds for any international are minuscule. All applicants are super accomplished and among the top students in their country. Those are called “lottery schools” for a reason, unfortunately. So, you’re in the running and you’ll get past first cut, but will you make the final cut? It’s impossible to tell.
However, your being 15 may be a problem since you’re a minor. Some universities have a problem with having minors in the dorms.
Study very very hard for the January SAT. The content’s easy but the speed and accuracy required make it necessary to practice a lot and review all mistakes so that the careless mistakes due to speed can be removed.
In your situation, it may be better to apply and attend a US boarding school such as Philipps Exeter, Andover, etc.
