Night Life

How are the parties and night life here? I heard that they've started cracking down a lot.

Yeah, that pesky thing about laws and everything… ;)

You won’t have any difficulty finding ways to party nearly every night if you so desire. Most parties are at off-campus apartments/houses (even the frat parties, I hear…not at frat house so much?).

If you choose to spend time studying, you may need to find a quiet place (not your dorm room) to study, depending on the folks on your floor, especially if you are not in Honors or Scholars. D1’s experience with the Honors dorm was that close to finals and on Sundays especially the lounges were usually filled with folks studying. D2’s Scholars floor was half scholars/half other people who were assigned to fill up empty rooms. She rarely could study in her room, unless it was a Friday or Saturday night, where she was a usually part of the 2-3 people who stayed in their room and did homework until the bars closed/parties ended. She found that the non-partiers went home on the weekends for the first few weekends, and she had many stories about helping to get drunk people into their rooms (and not puking in the trash can outside her room). Both of my D’s are the nerdy, don’t-need-to-be-wasted-to-have-fun-types. They made lots of friends with people of like minds, and found lots of other things to do than party all the time (tho I know neither completely abstained from drinking, of course. We’ve talked about it some…I’m not an idiot and was a college student “back in the day”, too.).

They were cracking down at the beginning of the year, but that’s pretty much stopped. The only huge “cracking down” that I can think of is the whole Turtle thing.

There are two bars, Cornerstone and Bently’s. I wouldn’t say either are particularly fun but its an option. The frats usually have parties but after rush week if you aren’t in a frat you are **** outta luck, and don’t expect to get into a frat party if you don’t have girls with your group or if you are going with a majority non white group. Other than that a few people have parties but they are exclusive. Its a really cliquey school so I would suggest finding a group first semester and sticking with them throughout your four years, that’s a way to have constant parties. What else… there is DC but its expensive and sometimes a hassle and if your not 21 it gets old after the first or second time because you cant drink inside the club, and they pat you down like you have crack and 50 guns on you. But if you decide DC, there is ibiza, love, ultrabar, fur (sucks), club 24 (ghetto!!!), and the park at 24th, and lux for 18+ to enter and 21 to drink. I find clubs are the most fun when you get a table and go with a big group, but who has money to drop every weekend for that?

Honestly, if you are business, architecture, or an engineering major I don’t know if you will have time to party because the school work here is so hard.

90% of that post is untrue.

I have a buddy who worked at the Turtle, he wasn’t even 20 but was able to serve beer. my impression was that was the “place”. Also plenty of fake ids

The legal age to serve alcohol is 18…
