Party Scene and Nightlife and University of Maryland

So, I visited the University of Maryland today and I really liked it! I thought it was awesome how the stadiums were right on campus and the mall blew me away. However I had a few questions about what students do at night.

I enjoy going out and having a good time and I know from frat parties that I've been to that at a big school like UMD, i will rush a frat.

So, on my tour I saw the "Frat Row" which is like a horseshoe with lots of frat houses on it. However, this is on campus. I am assuming that no real parties go on in these houses.

I was wondering where the cool frats tend to have their parties?

Is it at off campus campus housing?

Also....whats the deal with the bar scene at UMD. I read about there being a lot of bars around town. Are these exclusively for 21 and over...What about those who have good ID's?

Another question is about football and tailgating: do the frats take it seriously, or is the tailgating the most important part. I know at a lot of other schools every one goes to the tail gaits has a great time and stays for maybe half the game.

Thank you for shedding light on these topics and I hope a current UMD greek can explain, or alumni. Preferably not someone who despises the Greek system.

hey man, I would post this on the UMD specific page. Also, this is just me, but I’m not sure the average CC’er is the “nightlife” type guy/chic, so I would find a different way of getting the info.
