Yea, just don’t drink or smoke (cigarettes or pot) in your dorm the first couple weeks, especially if you have lots of people in your room, because RAs make inspection rounds between 10pm and 2am to scare people. After the first month, nobody gets in trouble for it anymore.

@atomic

it really depends on how hard-ass your RA is. my roommates last semester, when they were freshmen, were busted for alcohol too many times. they ended up getting written up and having to attend mandatory alcohol counseling or something equally sucky.

Yea true…we usually just drink on floors with chill RAs. Compared to most schools, those AAA drinking meetings are a very lenient punishment. I don’t know anyone that’s been kicked out of housing except for those found dealing hard drugs or dealing pot (usually with pot you get 2 chances).

Your mileage may vary though.

Dorm parties do occur, but most of them get broken up very quickly by the RAs. A lot of kids at NYU will eventually find some connections to fake ids and they can actually be quite worth it. In Manhattan, many places, not all, are lenient with ids because they want the business. Clubs and some bars are the places to go to drink and party. I’m going to be a sophomore next year, and I actually know quite a lot about club parties out here because I host many club events (all of which have been 18+ or w/ college ids). My group is actually going to be throwing a lot more parties next year, so if you want to get all the information about parties next semester, send me a message on facebook or my email.

the president of Stern Student Council got busted for using school money to buy alcohol. I believe it was the club/bar that notified the school. it’s always good to wait until you’re 21. you may be let go with a warning from a club/bar if caught with a fake ID but you never know if they will call police and/or the university. dont mess up your education for something silly.
