NJIT vs Rowan Mechanical Engineering

I have been accepted to NJIT and Rowan. At both schools, I've been accepted into their honors program and for mechanical engineering.

I have visited Rowan and my impressions were only positive. I saw the mechanical engineering labs, workshop and their baja car project. The couple of students I talked to there seemed to like it. One had received his undergrad and was working on his graduate degree all at Rowan. He enjoyed it.

They also have their clinic program where students work on actual projects all four years, which I like. I've been through FRC robotics. Actually building things is meaningful to me.

My limited dealings with NJIT have been less than impressive. For starters, their website was horrible. So many documents for tuition etc.. were poorly scanned pictures posted as pdfs. Their system seemed plagued with bugs. I received multiple blank emails requesting documents I had already submitted. All in all, they did not seem like they had their stuff together and leave me feeling very uneasy about what seems to be a poorly run institution.

Can anyone provide some info on NJIT though? Did you go there yourself? How is the program structured? Are they competent? What are the facilities and labs like? Professors?

How do the colleges compare for internships and getting jobs afterwards?

NJIT is ranked Number 1 for best value school by US News. This is because big engineering firms in New York City partner with area schools like NJIT. Rowan’s closer to Philly, which from my experience is a terrible market for engineering. A few years back, my cousin graduated as a double major in MechE and EE, and still couldn’t find a job anywhere in the area.

@KitchenSink

If you feel better about Rowan I’d trust your gut and go there.

Rowan is easily better than NJIT, no questions asked. It’s an easy choice.

@kitchensink why are you bumping someone else’s two year old thread?

It seems you like Rowan more, so I’d say Rowan.

Personally I like NJIT better. NJIT was straightforward in its application process when I applied. Personally I liked Rowan’s academics, but everything else felt average imo. I liked the feel of NJIT overall. I am wait listed at NJIT & I never applied to Rowan.
NJIT is ranked higher on Niche & as mohchan said on US News too. Although Rowan is was ranked as a top regional school by USNews.
