Hi everyone, I know it’s super late and I’m cutting the deadline really close, but I need help. I applied to mostly out of state schools, but even after going through the appeals process for some of them, I can’t afford their tuition. Therefore, my only options for instate are NJIT and Seton Hall University.
Seton Hall:
- Accepted into their 3+3 bio and PT program
- 23K in scholarships and FA
- 1500 in summer scholarships
- (did not apply to the Honors college since I didn’t have SHU high on my list but I regret it now)
- I have college credits from Rutgers school of health related professions that may be transferrable (not 100% sure)
NJIT:
- Accepted for biomed engineering
- 8K in scholarships
- Waitlisted for honors college
I’m not sure if PT is something I really want to pursue, however my parents keep telling me they’re afraid that I won’t be able to handle engineering and want me to go to SHU.
If there’s anyone here that can tell me about SHU and their bio&PT program or NJIT’s biomed engineering program, that’d be great.
I’m really not sure what to do, and I don’t want to end up regretting this decision down the road… please help
Email NJIT and state you’re really interested in the honors college, what should you send them (graded paper, recommendation) to get off the waitlist as it counts in your final decision.
Email SHU and ask whether you could still apply to the honors program.
What is the net cost at each?
Have you had physics and calculus in high school?
@MYOS1634 - I haven’t received a response from SHU yet, but NJIT told me that if I get a 3.5 gpa in the first semester, I can apply again.
NJIT is around $22K after scholarships and SHU is about $30K. I’d be dorming at both for the first year
Because NJIT is cheaper, I’d go with that, but only if you’ve already had a physics class and took calculus (in any form). Have you?
@MYOS1634 I’m sorry, I didn’t see that question in your comment. I took physics in my junior year and am currently taking calculus AB
I think you would be fine at NJIT then.
SHU would be perfect if you knew you wanted to do PT.
But since you’re not sure, better go to NJIT where you’ll have a choice of majors (you can start in biomed engineering and if you don’t like it switch to another sort of engineering - typically your first semester is the same regardless of engineering specialty).
