Hello Friends,
I am trying to make a decision between B.S in Data Science at UC Davis and B.S in Data Science at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
I am CA resident - but I need to pay full tuition + board at UC Davis. Amounts to 40k per year.
At NJIT I have been offered Dorman Honors college scholarship and so the cost of attendance is significantly lower.
Other than costs - trying to decide based on the following:
Ranking: While UC Davis is better ranked than NJIT - does the honors tag add significant value?
Job opportunities: Does on of this school offer better job potential than the other?
Residence Life: NJIT is supposed to be a commuter school in an urban setting. I plan to live on campus - any feedback on how life is for students living on campus? How does it compare to Davis which is not an urban area?
Any inputs will be greatly appreciated!
A pre-COVID common data set from NJIT said that 48% of frosh lived in campus housing, so it is probably about half commuter, half resident, analogous to some CSUs such as CPP and SJSU.
That’s a good description.
NJIT has good job opportunities in the NYC Metro region, but probably not well known across the nation. So it depends on where you plan to live and work after graduation (if you have a preference)
@DadOfJerseyGirl My preference is to move to east coast. Based on what you are saying, a degree from NJIT would be valuable in getting jobs in top companies in that area. That’s a great input. Thanks!
Oh ok! I did not know that. Thanks! 48% is not bad at all. I like small campuses. But definitely want a good amount of students to make friends and explore around. So, NJIT’s geographical location is a big plus for me - though I see conflicting reports on how the Newark are is - and whether it is really a safety concern - as long as I use common sense while moving around.
