Hey guys, so I wasn't selected to receive an interview for either the Presidential or Trustee Awards. BUT I am currently a NMSF and fully expect to move onto Finalist status. My question is what is the deadline for listing USC as your first choice school in order to be eligible for the automatic half-tuition scholarship? I have read a couple of threads and have found May 1 a couple times but also the end of March a few times as well.
Thanks

gal,
Here is the information…

Admitted merit scholars have until the May 1 deadline to inform USC they accept the offer of admission. This gives a senior time to consider other choices and the financial aid packages from other colleges/universities. The National Merit Scholarship at SC also includes a $1000 per year scholarship, in addition, from the NMFoundation. Before the deadline it is necessary for you to inform the NMFoundation SC is your first choice.

My advice is to accept or regret before the last day. The site crashed before the deadline for applications, so I suggest you do NOT wait until the last moment.

April 1 is the day many students hear from colleges around the country. The time in April will give you the opportunity to make your choice. If you know NOW SC is your first choice and will enroll you can inform the NMFoundation and send in your housing deposit.

If you have any question do check with your admissions counselor.

I agree with the above–our kiddo notified USC about mid-April, after he had reviewed his options (including all merit awards) and attended the USC accepted students’ reception. He still got his 1st choice in housing, when he made his deposit thereafter–Pardee & was very happy.

Some individual schools/departments may also offer additional merit awards on top of the Presidential and NM award, but it varies.

thanks guys!
georgia, you mentioned that NMFoundation tacks on another grand. does this mean that i could get the sc half tuition AND a corporate schol in place of that grand? i thought that you could only receive 1 schol from corporate, college or NMFoundation but your words made me question that

gal,
In another post alamemom explained that situation. I am not an expert on financial aid mattters. If you cannot find that post perhaps you should e-mail or call the financial aid office.
