NMF Scholarships: An Updated Compilation

miltonmom, it seems like you are talking about college-sponsored Merit Scholarships. The money for these scholarships comes from the particular college, so, no, they are not transferable. You still have time to change which college you designate as first choice. The other two kinds of NM Scholarships, corporate-sponsored and the single-payment National Merit $2500 Scholarship, would be transferable, but there are only about 1,100 and 2,500 of these, respectively.

Does anybody know the policy and/or affiliation of colleges who DON'T require listing a college of first choice?

National Merit for Willamette has been traditionally $15k/yr
New Mexico State University: National Merit Finalists (both in and out of state) are automatically awarded a National Merit Finalist Scholarship. Included in this award are:
* Tuition and Fees – $2,226 (in-state); $7,090 (out-of-state)
* Stipend (per semester) – $1,500
* Room and Meal Allowance (per semester) – $2,750
* One-Time Study Abroad Scholarship – $1,000
* New Laptop Computer
University of New Mexico: Approximately $13, 215 per year, renewable for 4 years

Willamette doesn't name specific scholarship amounts, save that 15k is the max.

My son visited Bradley when he was a semi-finalist this fall that the director of admissions told us that they don't advertise it, but they give full tuition to national merit finalists.

Oh, interesting! I'll add it to the list.

Oh, and Tulsa's full ride isn't totally guaranteed. They give about 70 or 80 NMF full rides (their presidential scholarship). The last couple of years they've had between 100 and 120 apply so some do get turned down. This is from their head of presidential scholarship program Jenny Lin who spoke to my son about his NMF presidential. He should hear whether he for sure got it by about march 15.

^ Oh, good to know!

Graceandpeace, thanks for that info about Bradley. DS was considering Bradley, but dropped it when breaking a tie with a couple other schools because of a lesser financial aid award. They never let us know about a full tuition offer! After seeing your post, I wrote his admissions representative, and she confirmed that he'd be offered a full tuition scholarship IF he named Bradley as his first choice by April 1st (and they'd even give him a couple of weeks leeway if he asked). Great news! Still, surprising that we had to ask - you'd think they'd have brought this up when we visited, even if they don't want to advertise this.

Addition to the privates:
^Northeastern U (full tuition competitive)

correction: University of Florida is oss tuition waiver plus $4000
Also anyone interested in a separate list of what lower level NM scholarships are on colleges websites or offered by admissions/fin aid folks? I mean has everyone found the lower NM amounts to be about $1000/year renewable? ie GA Tech $1000, VaTech $1000 plus a couple grand more in match for residential honors students. Any other small NM$ at desirable schools?
