NMF Status: Will a 3.0 GPA have a negative impact?

I am currently a National Merit Semi-Finalist. Due to circumstances, both in my control and beyond my control, my GPA in the first semester of my senior year is a 3.0 and I am worried, if I will be one of the few who will not progress to the Finalist status.

Here are my Questions:

1) Are schools required to send out the grades from the first semester of the senior year?

2) Is a lower GPA in the senior year (first semester) a reason some of the semifinalists do not make it to the finalist status. Looks like approximately 15200 out of the 16000 qualify for the finalist status.

Any CCers out there who were in a similar situation in the past?

The Finalist application package is due to NM before the end of the first semester, so no, I don't believe they will see your first semester grades.

Are you sure that the school counsellors do not have to send an update at the end of the first semester like they need to send to colleges.

I hope you are right.

No updates required, at least not for advancement from NMSF to NMF. I'm not sure what happens beyond that, in consideration for the corporate scholarship.
