NMH Paperwork

My D and I read Hoot about two years ago when the movie came out. It is a fast and funny read. The movie was bad and did not capture any of the comedic elements of the book. It is about a homeless kid who is an eco-terrorist. A funny and endearing eco-terrorist.

The best thing about the book "Hoot" (I agree, the movie was stupid and did not at all reflect the book's cleverness and humor) is that it serves as a "gateway" book to the author Carl Hiaason's adult fiction. His stuff is hysterical.

I was surprised that Hoot was on the book list. Though the issues brought up in it can foster a good discussion, there are other books at a higher reading level that could achieve the same thing.

If Endurance is the one about Shackleton then I highly recommend it. The story is nothing short of amazing. Anyone who wants to know what leadership is really like should read that book.

The books on the list are favorites suggested by different faculty members....they are not necessarily based on a particular reading level.

My son finished "All Quiet..." a few days ago. He said it was very good, but a little slow in parts. He read "The Little Prince" in one day while at work (he has a sitting around kind of job) and also thought it was good and had a lot of deeper meaning. He is currently reading a book by local author, Julia Older. I am glad that he is finally getting in his reading "groove". I think I will have him look at "Barabbas" and the one about the Everest expedition. He would like to get the Spanish books as well and see how he does with them.

keylyme - Is your son reading more than he needs to read?

Now that I'm almost ready for fall. I wvs wondering what parent's weekend is like??? Will we need to stay overnight?

Yes; he loves to read. At the beginning of the summer, he was a bit burnt out and did only soccer, baseball, and being a slug. Once he got into the All Quite book, he was back on a roll.

I thought I posted this before but I can't find it... Does anyone know what parent's weekend involves?? Is it a 1 day event or should we make reservations to stay over?

keylyme -where are you?? I really need to know about parent's weekend...

Hahaha, you seem desperate.
Well Parents weekend for my parents is 2 1/2 days and they will have to stay over night. Chillax daddyo. Hahaha
Keylyme should be back soon, so let go of that refresh button. Hehe

I already have a list of three people who want to visit me during fall foliage. Us Californians get very excited over colored leaves.

I think my parents are the least anxious ones out of the bunch.

I still have paperwork to send, not to NMH but to Kent. lol

Aussie13, I am wondering why you are still posting so regularly on the two NMH threads. I went back and read what you've been posting, and mostly it has been abound Kent. I checked the "accepted/rejected" and compared it to your posts, and I see that you were accepted at Kent but not at NMH. Since then you have interjected regularly here on the NMH threads and often to mention Kent.

I saw that you started a thread looking for reassurance that Kent is a good school. I am sure I speak for everyone here, we are happy that you were accepted at such a fine school. I wish you the best at your new school. But this thread is for current and prospective NMH students and parents. Obviously you are welcome here with constructive information and input. But please be thoughtful of the thread's population and purpose. Thanks.

Ok now that was dumb, one post would have been sufficient.
Im sorry again if you are sooooo hurt by me posting.

When I come across posts that don't particularly interest me, I simply skip them. The remedy is so plainly obvious, I'm suprised it warrants mentioning.

I agree with nylecoj, I tend to skip a lot of threads that don't spark my interest, or just don't post on those with no relevancy to me.
