NMMI prep

I didnt realize the topic but there is another thread showing all the USMA NMMI Preps received appointments this week. Congrats to all

Wooooooooooooo Thank You!!!!! Wooooooooooooooooo

do you have to be offered NMMI prep or can you just show up with everybody else and get the nearly-guaranteed appointment?

To be a 'sponsored' prep and the nearly-guaranteed you have to offered from USMA Dir of Admissions and West Point Assoc. of Graduates.. so you have to have a nomination, be fully qualifiied - I believe- this year.... so you couldnt just show up.

I understand there are sponsored preps from all the academies at NMMI.

In addition, you can be a unsponsored -free lance prep, if you didnt get an appointment in a particular year. It is not a quarantee, but they have a reasonably high rate of getting these into the academies

speaking for the aog west point preps, all of us have gotten in except two cadets who are still getting some paper work in. as for self-preps...the rate is 13%. (my english prof told me this). but anyways, i only know about 3-5 self preps who have been appointed to the academies.

13%!?!? forget that, Ill just write a bunch of essays to west point admissions begging for prep ;)

You don't need a nomination. You will have to (re)apply for nomination while you are a prep. The AOG liason (or Foundation, for Navy) acts as your MALO/BGO and helps arrange it.

Spider is going to NMMI as a Naval Academy Foundation prep unless he lucks out and gets a direct admission.

good luck to spider

most, if not all, of the west point preps here had nominations and since it was our 2nd/3rd year applying for a nomination, it wasnt really a problem.

Thanks, James. Now Spider has a prep offer from West Point, too. Decisions, decisions.

When are candidates normally notified for the prep scholarship from the AOG?

I know of some last year that had an offer as early as February, and a group that got the offer about the 2nd week of June (!). It looks like it is similar to regular admission, except that in some cases they are waiting to see if they offer you a 'civil prep' spot or 'direct admit' thus complicating the situation
