My son is a Semifinalist for Ntl Merit Scholar but his school still hasn’t given him the login information for the app. He also hasn’t received the letter yet. His name is on the publically released lists from Ntl Merit Org. We are at a large public high school in Houston and things are delayed from Harvey but he only has like 18 days to get the app in. He has left messages for the school counselor with no response. Is this unusual or not? Any other way to get this login data?

I need my school’s support for this scholarship so I’m hesitant to report to Ntl Merit office that they haven’t done this and risk upsetting someone at the school. There is one other kid at my school in the same boat.
National Merit needs to know you are impacted by the hurricane, past on situations I heard of in the past, they will extend the deadline for you but you need to let them know what’s going on.

We still haven’t received the login info either. The students were called to the office last week where they were told the packet was immediately being mailed home. We have received nothing. I sent an email to both the principal and guidance counselor yesterday. I had asked for a copy of the letter/email be sent to me with the login and password info so the application could get started. The principal responded saying yes the student needed login info and they would have to look into it. I am giving it one more day and then will have my son visit the guidance dept. You may have some luck if your son talks directly to them? It is beyond me why they wouldn’t hand the information to the students. Very frustrating! Good luck to you!
My son finally got a copy of his letter yesterday after calls and emails. The letter has the codes on it that you need. The application is due in three weeks, so I would be a little more aggressive at this point. I would call Nmsc and explain the situation. Ask them for instructions to give the school. Then email the instructions to all parties at the school with a reminder that time is of the essence. I hope those that are waiting get your letters tomorrow.

Finally received the letter yesterday from the school after calling Ntl Merit office directly. The counselor was new in her role this year and was unaware she needed to do it. Ntl Merit said if additional time is needed for Houston apps that they will work with the school to grant extension.
Glad to hear! Our guidance counselor is newer as well with his first round of seniors. He didn’t realize there was login information the student needed. We will be calling Ntl Merit office in a few weeks to be sure they have all of the school info as well as received confirming SAT scores.
