NMSQT Scholarships

Hello,

Current high school junior here. I scored a 223 out of 228 on the PSAT (1490). However, I happen to live in the uber-competitive state of NJ and the minimum score should be pretty close to what I got. I’m interested in applying to many 7-8 accelerated programs, but a lot of them require early applications and additional supplements. How would I record my National Merit status on my transcript, and the scholarship that comes with it?

Thanks

When are the early applications due? If I recall correctly, NMSF cut offs were known right before Labor Day. You should know before you have to send any applications in. Until then, there is no designation to include on an application until state cut-offs and commended are revealed.

You won’t know if you do receive a NMF scholarship until long after apps are in.

You’ll simply list that you’re a NMSF (if true) and a likely NMF.

NMSF is usually known the second week of Sept

@mom2collegekids Any idea when they hear if they are commended? DD got a 224 SSI but goes to a NE boarding school so her scores have to be compared to some uber level.

Commended should be soon if not already.

For the class of 2018 Commended is 211 (up 3 points from last year, ouch!)

crazy @3scoutsmom , do you see this affecting the individual state NMSF minimum score?

I’ve been following the compasspress blog (google it, I can’t post a link because of the TOS) Art has been very reliable in the past and I think his predictions are as good I’ve seen. It looks like it won’t be a 3 point increase across the board. He’s saying higher score states will likely go up a point - he’s putting TX at 221 but some of the lower scoring states will be going up 2 to 3 points. He’s putting NJ at 223 which would be safe for you @GreenPoison but is also giving a range of 222-224 for NJ.

It’s going to be a long wait for September!

^ What @3scoutsmom said. Art has also said that he thinks a 224 anywhere is unlikely, but with only one year’s worth of data on the new test, he says he isn’t comfortable ruling it out.

You can say that again!

The Commended score just went up two points, correct? Wasn’t it 209 last year?

Yes, it went up two points from 209 to 211.
