NMSQT Semifinalist Cutoff

When I took the PSAT in 2007 of my junior year my selection index was 214. I've done some research and found out that the previous year, the minimum semifinalist score in my state (NC) was a 214. According to College-Bound Juniors Sophomores 2007, the average junior PSAT score decreased slightly this year:

Junior average scores for 2007 (with comparison to 2006 data):

* Critical Reading: 46.7 (1.0 decrease)
* Math: 48.2 (0.3 decrease)
* Writing Skills: 45.9 (0.1 increase)

Of course, this says nothing of the state cutoff score. Now I dearly wish that I had actually studied for the PSAT so I could have gotten a slightly higher score. I really am quite distraught with having to wait until sometime until mid-September to find out if I qualify for semifinalist status.

So what do you think? Do I stand a decent chance of becoming a semifinalist? Is there any way that I could find out for certain before September?

Gah D= Hmmmmmm

Hmm, according to this* index, NCs NMSQT was 216. Keep in mind that this was the 2005 / projected 2006 cut off.

According to National Merit Scholarships - the Collegeboard site - it was 214 last year.

SO, is there a good chance OHIO will up its cutoff by 4 points this year?

Who said anything about Ohio? lol

YOUR score is 214. CUTOFF was 214. AVG. scores decrease across nation. But perhaps not in NC? But probably. I'd say you'll make it!! NOTE: worry as much as possible - this should help keep the cutoff at or below 214.

So I just looked at the OP's link, and do you think the sophomores did worse than the juniors simply because juniors have more general knowledge, or because the junior class was much "smarter" than the sophomore class in general?
