Okay, so I took the PSAT/NMSQT as a junior and am currently waiting to see whether I made it as a Finalist or Semi-Finalist. I think there information is supposed to be sent sometime in September, but I wanted to see if there was any information available beforehand. After finding someone sharing my question on Yahoo! Answers I was led here, the question having said that the cutoff scores were posted. I can't find that, so I was hoping someone could direct me or give me some kind of helpful information. If it helps any, my index score is 208 (CR 70, M 65, W 73) and I'm from Alabama. Thanks!

I don't think the state cut-offs for this year have been released yet.

Seems like I saw a post where last year the notifications for semi were actually sent the end of August and the others that made commended but not semi got theirs in September.

I'm not sure if they do it like that every year or not, but if they do then the semi notifications won't be too far away.

Good luck on making it. I am wondering if the cutoff indexes will generally move higher or lower this year.

Alright, thanks a lot for the help!

according to these threads the cut off in 2007 for Alabama

most of the cut offs in 2007 were slightly lower than the previous year. You s/b close with a 208.

Semifinalist cutoff scores are not posted; we have to collect them here and compile a list. Semifinalists will be notified through their school beginning at the end of this month and will be given the application and information to complete to advance to finalist (finalist notification will be in January, if I recall correctly). Commended students will be notified through their school at the end of September.

I would not expect much change in cutoffs this year.

Average PSAT scores went down this past year because of the broader diversity of test-takers, so it is possible that cut-offs will go down as well, unless NMSQT decides to keep the number of semi-finalists constant.

Wow... That's really freaky. I got the EXACT same score as you with the same scores in each section! What a coincidence...

So I missed it... by one point.

?!

This is uncertain. The 209 cited was from last year's (2007) cut-offs. There is a very active thread going for 2008 cut-offs right now. Keep following it if you do not wish to wait for your school to notify you.

As of right now, the only thing we know about the 2008 AL cut-off score is that it is less than or equal to 212. Some poster (such as yourself) might provide information at any time which will change this.

The cutoffs do change from year to year.

Ah, okay. I'm up to speed now, I think. According to the thread it's now less than or equal to 209... so maybe I have a shot! Thanks for clearing that up!

I am a semifinalist from California. How hard is it to get that $1000 scholarship? aka make it to finalist position and then win?

Okay... I made 208 and missed it, but I'm not sure if one of my scores is correct. Wrong answers count 1/4 of a point. If you miss 3 or lower, does it round up or down? If it rounds down then I should have made it. If anyone knows pleeease respond so I can get in touch with whoever.

Why are you sure that your 208 isn't NMSM? You posted that 209 was officially the AL cutoff scores. What do you base that information on?
