I applied to the University of Minnesota on August, and the application tracker online says that they received my application on August 21, and that all required materials have been received. I still haven't received any word from them, and I'm getting worried. Should I call them tomorrow, or would that make me appear too impatient? I applied to the Mathematics program at CSE, and I realize that's very competitive, but considering how early I'd applied, I should think I'd have received word already.

I applied with the Golden Gopher Fast Application in Early September and I haven’t gotten a decision either. I hope that it just means that they releasing decisions earlier, but I don’t really know.

Calling will in no way make you seem impatient, I’ve called multiple times and each time they haven’t asked for a name, so they have no way of knowing who you are anyway. Also the people who answer the phones generally are similar to “customer service” people who can answer questions but don’t actually make decisions.

Without knowing your stats, it’s hard to tell your application. Since UMN is rolling based, if your stats is above the average CSE enrolled, they will send you acceptance decision. If your stats is way below the 25% of enrolled, they may reject your applicatio., If your statis is in between, you will have to wait close to the end of Feb as they cannot decide your decision until then. It won’t hurt if you call the school to inquiry.

I’ve heard from several people that letters just take a long time to go out. Some didn’t get their acceptances until the spring. Just remember to be patient, though I understand it can get a little tense.

I think in this case the amount of time the letter takes doesn’t really correspond to any double meaning.
