I just checked ISIS and im pretty surprised. The "predicted" loans listed are around $17,000 and bright futures is around $3,000. So UF isnt giving me an grants or scholarships? maybe im not reading it right? This is weird especially considering my EFC is only $7,700 and my sis who goes to UF only has to take out around $9,000 in loans a year. At this point, NYU would be cheaper...

Also, will UF be mailing out the aid awards so i can check if the one posted online is correct?

Same here man. 27k in loans + 16k in grants+ being dead broke= best university ever

@135pipe are you OOS? Because i’m instate and i didnt get any grants… Is that the award posted on your ISIS?

@Sloth83, does your sister have a Pell Grant? If she does, I would expect you to also earn one. The same with any other grants.

Contact your financial aid adviser in S-107 Criser Hall between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, or call (352) 392-1275. They should be able to help, one way or the other.

Out of state @sloth83

I’m in state and i got 11k in grants/scholarships and 10k in loans.

Yeesh

I’ve got all of you beat … No scholarship (even though daughter’s stats were high enough to get an invite to the honors college) … but she got a grant for a whopping $495… And loans for $5500 (student) + $37,153 (parent) totaling $42,653 in loans!! Not only are we NOT rich, we have 2 kids in college at the same time!

For anyone out of state considering saddling this sort of debt, multiply that times 4 years, it’s not worth it. I honestly think this might be part of the reason only approx. 3% of the freshman class and undergraduates in general are out of state- and that is taken from UF’s common data set for anyone who is interested.

Yes, I have a bit of sour grapes here, mostly on principle so forgive me for my rant… I will never understand how schools decide who gets what. And I don’t need to hear the “holistic” talk because my daughter completely has that wrapped up- sports and scouts- both all through high school- since kindergarten actually, community service, leadership, part-time job (15-20 hrs/wk), NHS, high test scores and GPA.

Actually good that UF is not my daughter’s first choice but money is one of her deciding factors so this certainly seals the deal. Anyway…. enough said. Good luck to all the new gators. Daughter’s best friend will be there with you!

^ ^ ^ ^ Rant Away! We got our (in-state) numbers yesterday, and even though it’s what we’ve expected it’s still a shock ($5.5 K in student loans and $12K in parent plus loans…ouch).

UF is stingy in merit aid, even more so for OOS students. It does a decent job of FA aid for low EFC (mostly in-state) students. Without merit aid, any OOS public university is way to expensive, IMHO.
