Ok let me explain. This summer, my family moved to a different state, and I'll be a sophomore this upcoming year. The only AP class at my school that is available to sophomores is AP Euro. However, I wasn't able to complete the summer work due to certain circumstances, therefore I'm not eligible to take the class. I was wondering how this will effect my chances of getting into top-ranked schools such as the UC's. I've signed up for honors chemistry, which is the only honors (non-AP) class available to sophomores. If I just do well with what I'm currently in, and take all AP classes in my junior and senior years, should I be fine? With solid EC's, test scores, etc.? Also, I'm kind of in the middle of a downward trend since I took all honors as a freshman at my old school but now taking only one (they only offer one) as a sophomore. I'm truly sorry if it sounds like I'm making excuses, I'm really not, I'm just nervous. History really isn't my strength, and I would rather use my time take another class that I'm interested in. Thanks for your help.

colleges compare you to your school. Take the most rigorous classes you can. If your school doesn’t offer APs or has restrictions, you will not be penalized.

I’m not certain about UC’s in particular but I know that most colleges will look at extenuating circumstances (if applicable), when evaluating a student. I would definitely communicate your concerns with your counselor. It certainly is not your fault that you had to move and enroll in a different school with its own curriculum requirements.
And yes, you will very likely be fine with solid EC’s, good test scores, etc. even if you didn’t take that one AP Euro course in 10th grade. Just make sure your junior year schedule is as challenging as possible and that you do well!
Good luck!
