No AP History classes -- bad??

Many of my friends are freaking me out by saying that it is really bad to not take an AP History class. Is it true? Will it hurt my chances at Ivy's or top noch colleges?

SAT:
Diagnostic gave me 1770
After taking classes I should be able to get 2050 - 2100
Goal is a 2250 with more hard work

Ranking: 1 of 800 (multiple students are #1)

Well, what area of study are you thinking of going into?

Engineering or business

With your course load and goals, I think it should be fine. Colleges like seeing patterns in the activities/classes their applicants pursue - it shows passion. Keep up the APs and the lack of a history probably won’t make a difference.

You’re fine. There’s no requirement of doing AP History… just as long as you do advanced work in many subjects (as your courses show). How many APs are offered at your school? How many will you take total?

is the ones i’m taking (total 11)
We have:
AP USH
AP Euro
*AP Comp Sci
*AP Calc AB/BC
AP Music Theory
AP Art History
AP Studio Art
*AP Chinese/French/Spanish
*AP English Lang/Lit (12th grade only)
AP Stats
*AP Chem
AP Bio
*AP Physics B and C
AP Environmental
AP Gov
*AP Econ
*AP Psychology

Is your school one of those that forces students two or more years ahead in math to take calculus over two years instead of the usual one?

yes
AP calc AB sophomore year
BC junior year
IB HL Math senior year

Stop worrying. That’s an impressive courseload and you’ll be fine. Especially if you can pull a 7 in math HL.

How on earth did you go from Geometry to AP Calc AB?!
At my school it’s Geometry, then Algebra 2, then Precalculus, then Calculus, then AP Calculus AB!
Basically you have to get into Alg2 as a frosh in order to get there!

i took geometry and alg2 at the same time and took summer school pre calc

When I was in high school, it was:

Normal sequence: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus
One year ahead sequence (<10% of students): Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus BC
Two years ahead sequence (one student every few years): Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus BC, math at a college or university if desired

A few years later, calculus demand increased from one class to two, so they made the second class AB. But there was no requirement to spread calculus over more than one year.

I’m not seeing any history in your schedule for Sophmore or Junior year?? I don’t think no AP History will hurt you - but are you really only planning on taking 1 history course in all of HS??

*SAT:
Diagnostic gave me 1770
After taking classes I should be able to get 2050 - 2100
Goal is a 2250 with more hard work

*

I think you need to realistic. If your diagnostic is a 1770, it’s not likely that you’re going to end up with Ivy stats.

Not taking an AP history is the least of your concerns.

What are your other school choices?

I am taking regular US History over the summer.

Would self-studying APUSH make a difference?

Wow CC is completely filled with overachievers. You would realistically think the geniuses that post here could fathom that missing one AP or having one B+ or one week of poor attendance at school will not hurt their chances when they have 10+ AP’s total and 3.999999/4.0 GPA’s. People need to relax seriously. Like your HYP chances are actually going to be completely ruined because you skip out on one AP class. Man…
