Just this year I have decided that I REALLY want to go to UPenn Wharton undergrad. However, I do not have many business oriented extracurriculars. My schools does not FBLA or any APs in economics. We had DECA last year and I was going to be in it this year, but the teacher who taught it moved and the class was cancelled. The only thing that I have done that slightly has to do with business was that I started and funded my own Kickstarter campaign. I am in gymnastics 20+ hours a week, play cello, and am part of many clubs, so I did not have much extra time. However, business is definitely what I want to do and I would love to get into UPenn (I posted a more detailed article before with all of my stats fro chancing). Will I still have a chance or will my lack of business related activities really hurt my chances?

Make a business club. If you make one, it shows character and leadership.

But I am already in senior year so I won’t it not help that much?

Knowing that you have the ambition to go into business, you should for sure find some sort of extra curricular activity to join or even volunteer. I can see that it is hard for you now to make a business club of your own, but what you can do is maybe search online - for any networking clubs, or try to find events that are associated with companies that you might be interested in and try to volunteer for their annual events.

If you are already part of clubs, and have a role of being a leader, that it self will show the univerisities how involved you are. You will have a chance to get into business, but always remember, when submitting your application, they way you write and present yourself is what matters. (the wording, application, and passion shown in your writing)

Thank you so much that was very helpful!

I did create a Kickstarter and have one running now. Check it out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1402594634/project-penny-global?ref=nav_search

start a deca club! really easy to start and the conferences aren’t until january usually
find a new teacher to host it

I do not think it is necessary to have a business EC and I would not scramble to invent one now. Wharton wants people strong in academics, math, strong writing and communication skills and leadership.

Ok thank you! I would look into starting a Deca Club but don’t you think that it is too late now and it will look like I am just doing this last minute because I have no business activities? An thanks BrownParent, I thats what I was hoping.

How does your child like Brown btw, that school is also on my list!
