No Campus -- Myth or Fact? School Spirit?

I’ve heard that NYU doesn’t have a campus, which most colleges do, is that true or simply a myth?

Also, how’s the school spirit? Are NYU students truly passionate about the school and show their school pride?

It is true. NYU’s campus is of two parts- Downtown Brooklyn (NYU’s School of Engineering) and Manhattan (few buildings around Washington Sq.). However, it’s all connected well by shuttle buses and hence it’s amazing. It’s like going to school in NYC. It’s like traveling in NYC everyday lol.

NYU students do show their pride. But don’t expect to see tremendous sports support. Coles is being shut down for the next five years actually. So we have only two athletic facilities now -> BAF and Palladium

Lol even universities like BU don’t have a campus btw

People will say “meet you on campus,” and they mean Washington Square Park or the buildings surrounding it. WSP is our “quad,” if you will, but academic buildings and dorms are very spread out. For instance, I’m currently in an academic building on the corner of Broadway and Houston, my best friend’s residence hall is a fifteen-minute walk from campus, and the residence hall that Greek life has penthouses in is in Chinatown.

For school spirit, it’s what you make of it. NYU is such a big school that you can make it into anything. It’s all about finding friends who share the same interests.

“Most colleges do” - on what basis? It’s actually very unusual for a college in a huge city to have a typical campus, at least in the northeast. NYU does have a slight campus feeling if you’re referring to Washington Square Park, where a lot of the buildings are, but overall it does not have a campus. The university owns dozens of buildings throughout the city and most of them are scattered throughout the city streets. You might have to take the subway across the city from your resident hall to get to class.

Among urban universities with real campuses are:
Harvard
Yale
Columbia
Northeastern
Johns Hopkins
Georgetown

If you look at a map on Bing or Google you could answer this for yourself.

@TomSrOfBoston Yes, those 6 do, as well as dozens of others, but out of the hundreds of urban universities in the region, that’s not many. While NYU is one of the few very well known urban universities without a typical campus, it is definitely not the only one.
