My son heard from somebody at his school today that freshman will not be allowed to have cars on campus next year. Has anybody else heard this or is it just a rumor? Thanks

I haven't heard this.

U Miami is close to implementing this, but I have not heard that FSU is even considering this.

i don't think its a bad idea. parking from what we have heard and experienced when we visited is difficult. We really liked the way they have reconfigured the campus of late to be closed off to much of the vehicular traffic.

The campus seems manageable without a car.

True, but for instate students, a 5 hr drive home becomes 10 hours for parent:5 up to FSU and 5 back home, and 10 more to get your student back to FSU, and back home. I think being able to have access to a car helps, even if one has to leave it be until a trip home....

I work for FSU and have been involved in this discussion. This is not happening for next year or in the near future.

dont see it happening either.

I have a bike

Thanks for all of the replies, looks like it was just a rumor. The smile is back, both on his face and mine; I was dreading the 9 hour roundtrips. :)
