Taking cars to FSU...

I was just wondering because I've heard different things, are freshman allowed to bring and use their cars on campus? Some say you aren't allowed to and others say you can. I need to know! haha! =] THANKS!

you sure can, I did!

Yep. I would probably leave the $70K BMW at home and take the $7K Toyota.

haha! Well I definitely don't drive a BMW! But I knew we could but even a guest speaker from another University said freshman couldn't and I was like "What!!" haha!

I just had to make sure. thanks! =]

Can anyone comment on the parking situation at FSU? In other words, is it impossible to find a space to park even if you live on campus? My brother goes to UCF and he says they have severe parking problems there so I was just wondering if there was a similar situation at FSU.

Parking at FSU is an adventure. It's more like hunting for treasure. :)

My understanding is that parking is tight. You park you car on campus for use off campus (ie, getting home, going to the grocery/mall), but you walk and use the bus system to get around campus. There will be a space somewhere on campus to park your car. It may not be close to where you want to be. And there are no assigned spots or assigned lots other than any student "W" lot. The W lots are not broken down or further assigned. You will have a permit to park in any W student lot.

I hear that people will wait in their cars by the building and then offer to drive that person to their car and take their spot, haha. I'm planning on selling my car this summer. I want a motorcycle/scooter, but my parents won't let me get one. I saw loads of motorcycle parking open when I went to visit the campus.

Our D brought her car to school in her second semester (spring) and as much as we worried over it - it was a great choice. She has freedom to roam off campus on weekends and can come home (we're in Tampa) as she pleases. She has never had a problem finding parking. There are several garages, in addition to the various curbside parking, and the longest circling session in a parking garage (near her dorm over the Park Ave cafe) was less than 15 minutes. All in all, a very positive decision. Good luck

In my opinion, underclassmen living on campus should not be allowed to bring cars during the Fall and Spring semesters (parking is not an issue during the summer). The difficult parking situation is made considerably worse by the fact that hundreds (if not thousands) of student spots are taken up around-the-clock by cars which are rarely used (some are simply there so that these students can drive themselves home on weekends!). In fact, the entire "second" garage (the one near the Thagard center in the middle of campus - apparently, a few more have been constructed since I graduated) and the open air lot immediately next to it are completely useless to commuter students. These two areas alone account for exactly one thousand parking spots.

I know plenty of people who did not bring cars to FSU when they lived on campus, and they managed just fine. Virtually everything you need (food, bookstores, even the Tennessee strip) is accessible by foot as is.
