Chances at UVA OOS?

Your SAT may save you... I would consider them all pretty significant reaches given the OOS status

you definitely have a solid chance at all of those schools

corny title. you know you have a chance with those scores and your blackness.

haha no racism.

you could get in anywhere (including ivies).

^I respectfully disagree. Your scores are fine. But being black and a good scorer isn't a ticket to an ivy.

Your ECs leave something to be desired. The 'legitimate' ones would be scouting (which is really impressive) and being a tennis coach.

And I know those don't take up all of your time...You'll get UNC-CH but UVA is a little tougher. You'll PROBABLY get it. But there's really no guarantee.

Actually, while UVA is overall a bit more prestigious, due to an extremely strict cap on OOSers in NC, UNC is at least as hard to get in to. But you definitely have a decent shot at all your schools.

ses, i might have exagerated a bit, b/c no one is 100% guaranteed; however, colleges (especially ivies) are on a desperate hunt for high scoring (700+) black students, mainly b/c there aren't many of 'them'. i've read many articles on ivy leagues and black students, and i'm very confident that a college like harvard would accept skns118 in a heartbeat (despite his lack of legitimate EC's).

however, this is only an opinion, and i'm no adcom, but a black male with a 1530 has a VERY good chance at any college.

^I respect your opinions, but as a black student with similar stats and friends who have similar stats, that's just not the case.

Each ivy only has about 7% african americans. That comes out to something like 8-900 blacks for the entire ivy league each year. There are, courtesy of national achievement alone, that many high achieving blacks. There are more than enough in the northeast alone to fill those spots.

Harvard can pick and choose. And they'll take the best of the best. And I really doubt that the OP, when all is said and done, is the true cream of the crop.
