Hi everyone,
I called Choate Rosemary Hall to schedule an interview for my application (I called before the application deadline), but they said that they had no more slots for an interview, but they may or may not send me an email asking questions. Without the chance of a face-to-face interview, will this lower my chances?
Choate’s deadline for applications is Saturday (1/10/15 ) … and face to face interviews do matter- a lot. Why did you wait until the eleventh hour to schedule an interview?
I’ve been fairly busy with model un meetings, njsoyo concerts, and I also decided to finish my application before calling in for an interview, without realizing that Choate would run out of slots.
Oh… I thought you might have been hospitalized or something.
@marisa18920: Choate does require an interview, either face-to-face on- or off-campus with the admissions team or an alumni interviewer or via Skype. As PhotographerMom stated, interviews do matter; they are an important component of your application. Because interviews and letters of recommendation rely on other people’s time, they are the components to line up early in the process. I’m sorry you missed this. As Choate has already indicated, it will be up to the admissions team to decide how and if to accommodate you, but you are not putting your best foot forward by waiting so late. Good luck to you.
I’m not trying to pour salt in OP’s wounds ( my heart does go out) but had there been a catastrophic reason for not scheduling an interview, she could have petitioned the AO for a Skype interview (at this late date with apps due tomorrow). Unfortunately, just being busy with other things won’t help her now. If anything- I hope future applicants see this as a valuable lesson and make scheduling their interviews a priority. All the best to the OP and I’m sorry you missed this, too. Good luck.
Agreed, not to pile on, but all of the applicants are busy and 99.9% managed to call and schedule an interview. Its extremely presumptuous to think that you can call 6 days before the deadline and request an interview.
Plus, even a cursory glance at the Choate admissions website (see below) would have indicated that you should schedule the interview prior to completing the application. All these schools want to take kids who have demonstrated serious interest, calling 5 days before a deadline is pretty much the opposite of this.
