Anyone else still waiting? I have gotten a few emails from them saying to be patient etc, that the interview through mid-February. Just wondering if anyone else is still waiting.
I’m waiting as well. XP
I’m also waiting.
Is the interview required? It’s already mid-february and I haven’t gotten any notifications for an off-campus interview yet.
Got an email the other day that at this point they are waiving the interviews and calling the applications “complete” without them. Being that I originally contacted them in Sept about the interview, I am not sure why it couldn’t be arranged and they couldn’t or wouldn’t really answer when I asked.
You contacted them in September @makp715 ? And they still didn’t get to it? Did you request a Skype interview or was there an option for alumni? I requested it late November and got it scheduled in December… Hmmm
I requested skype (Sept 7 was when we got the first reply about it) because we live in the middle of nowhere and I firmly believe no alumni would be anywhere near here. I got emails telling me they were working on it, and to be patient - which I did, I let it go thinking those were accurate. The email said interviews via skype or alumni go through mid-February. Then we got an email that said the interview would be waived since it was not completed. I emailed and asked about it, and was not super impressed with the response. Honestly, I am not getting a great vibe from this school, so it is what it is and I am not sure there is a point in arguing it.
So odd… Just watch, your kid will get offered admission!
^or not… if @makp715 needs substantial FA.
I hope I’m not projecting, but we’re one of those families that had Choate as #1 choice, fantastic interviews, super friendly AO, sustained interest from coaches and specialty teachers, and in early March were asked to choose between admission not meeting FA needs or a waitlist. It’s a great school, but also very transparent about their inability to meet all FA needs.
Here is some Choate love, though: [a row of yellow and blue hearts] - CC not liking my emojis.
My DD interviewed on a Friday before a long weekend and admittedly the place was crazy. The admissions folks seems so disinterested in my DD that she didn’t apply. We waited forever to meet a coach and they couldn’t make that happen.
I’ve read on here multiple times that choate is very transparent about FA which is a good thing. I’m certain it hurts when you know you would be accepted if you could pay but it’s good to know your application didn’t hold you back.
If it were my kid, I would be calling them everyday in search of at least some sort of an interview. You would hope they could spare a 30 minute or less skype interview.
I decided that was maybe too personal for before admission decisions come out. I’ll just say I let DD make the decision of if she wanted me to continue to advocate for her, and she wants to let it be. She firmly believes if she is accepted at one of the schools she applied to it will be because that is where she should be.
That said, she has been using the interviews to ask the questions she needs to know about the schools should she have a choice between more than one. If she can’t ask those questions, I am not sure if accepted how she will decide.
Just let it play out, IMO. I’m sure it happened to lots of people and nagging for interview won’t help either. Just go to revisit day if she gets in.
@makp715, if she is admitted to more than one school, between M10 and April10 you’ll be receiving phone calls and emails from current parents, students, team captains (if your daughter plays a sport), etc., so there will be plenty of opportunity to ask the questions you didn’t get a chance to ask during an interview. And, of course, you will have an opportunity to revisit and meet with current students, teachers, and school administrators. Good luck!
I’m in the same situation as you and I emailed Choate last Friday. They said they are not doing any more interviews and will waiver my interview requirement. They also added that the Ao’s will contact me if they need any information.
Honestly, I’m kinda bummed at the outcome. Hopefully my lack of an interview in the application won’t affect it too much.
No, I don’t think not having an interview will decide your chances. If you’ve put together a good application, you’ll be in good shape. My two kids graduated from Choate, but its not the be all and end all. There are a ton of great high schools. Bloom where you’re planted. It’s just one opportunity among many.
