<p>I'm sure many of you have come across this problem.</p>
<p>I'm hoping to transfer to Berkeley as a philosophy major and there are only 3 lower-division courses that I need to take (Intro to Logic, Modern Philosophy, and Ancient Philosophy), none of which have a corresponding articulated course at my cc. I have checked the articulation agreements for other nearby community colleges, and they don't offer those courses either (with the exception of Golden West College, which has an articulated course for Ancient Philosphy, but since I don't have a car it would take me almost 2 hours to get there by public transportation).</p>
<p>So my question is this: Will Berkeley look down on my application if they see that I have not completed these courses (even if there was no articulated course at my college)?</p>
<p>Will they even check to see if my college offered the courses?</p>
<p>I just finished finals and my 4.0 is still very much intact, but i've heard that not completing the articulated courses makes you less competitive- is this true?</p>
<p>Yes. The fact is that it’s called “Preparation for the major.” So a person with a 3.0 who has even one of those requirements completed (in addition to GEs) is considered better prepared than a person with a 4.0 who has none completed. This preparation WILL be factored in, but to what extent is anybody’s guess.</p>
<p>look into taking them online. Try CSU bakersfield or something crazy like that.</p>
<p>Okay…so I guess this brings me to my next question…</p>
<p>What have you guys done in the case where certain courses were not articulated?</p>

<li><p>I told them it wasn’t available in my additional comments (but I already completed the minimum 3/5 pre-req requirement, this was just additional stuff)</p></li>
<li><p>I saw actually on the UCLA accepted/rejected thread that some people were rejected because they didn’t complete their prereq DESPITE the fact they were not even available! An example: a person with a 4.0 attended EVC, a CCC close to De Anza/SJCC that in contrast, actually had the prereqs. My theory is that UCLA wanted to see that person make an effort to complete the prereq…</p></li>

<p>If you can, I would recommend you to enroll in a CCC that has more major prep. I mean, what good is going to a CCC that doesn’t prepare you for your major?</p>
<p>I drove 40 min a day to class (vs. 10) to a “faraway” CCC that I felt would better prepare me because of the honors/prereq availability.</p>
<p>lucy I had several major pre-reqs that had no course articulated for them here in irvine and I still got into every single UC i applied to. Im a bioengineering major with a 3.83 GPA and I got into</p>

<p>So I wouldnt worry too much, if at all. Just make sure you do finish the ones that are offered at your jc</p>
<p>@ lucy: I actually applied to Berkeley philosophy and was just admitted.</p>
<p>I had a 3.74, and no prereqs done either. Another phil major on here actually went on assist and checked every CCC out there lol. Apparently only 8 or so out of 66 CCC’s have those philosophy prereqs.</p>
<p>Now, it would help if you have those prereqs done, but you won’t be penalized if you don’t.</p>
<p>I was a spring admit, but I know phil majors (all with higher GPA’s than mine) 3.8+ that got in for fall to UCB for philosophy.</p>
<p>If you maintain your 4.0, you’ll be fine.</p>
<p>@fotthilltransfer What if there are no nearby schools that offer them? I mean, would they still look down on you for not moving to another part of the state just to complete 3 pre reqs?</p>
<p>@Nokimadness Congrats! Hopefully i’ll be joining you in the future. I’m assuming you still got most of your pre reqs done though, right? Considering your major, I would assume that most colleges would offer a large part of the necessary courses.</p>
<p>The philosophy major only requires 3, NONE of which are available. So I can’t even apply partially prepared.</p>
<p>So I checked a lot of the colleges on ASSIST and most of them do not have ANY of the pre reqs available for philosophy. Maybe 6 colleges offered 1-2 of the courses, and only San Francisco CC had all three. I’m assuming they wouldn’t expect me to move to SF for cc.</p>
<p>I think my best bet is to call them… Since a lot of the other cc’s also lacked the necessary prep i’m assuming most transfers don’t have them…i hope</p>
